I run PLEX on my QNAP TVS-873 and have noticed very high CPU utilization during live transcoding. Sometimes it shoots up into the high 90’s. As a result, I’m trying some different things to see if I can get that down. I have loaded tvheadend on my NAS and have it setup to use my HDHomerun (the same tuner as I use for PLEX Live/DVR) with the Tvheadend plugin installed. I have noticed that the CPU is working about 40% or 50% less using that configuration. So why is PLEX having such a hard time with transcoding? It sounds like the transcoder code needs to be looked at. Something isn’t right.
