I am in the process of putting together a system to ultimately cut the cord.
The first goal has been to get Live TV and DVR functionality for OTA broadcasts. I acquired a nVidia Shield unit, a HDHomerun unit along with 2 antennas. Using the Shield as a Plex Server (with Plex Pass) I have successfully it up to display the Live TV grid and ability to select shows to record. Seems to be working well.
The clients I currently have are:
nVidia Shield
Web client (Windows 10/Edge)
Roku Streaming Stick +
I have access to the Live TV grid/guide with the Shield and the Web clients, but can’t seem to find it in the Roku Streaming Stick + client.
So first question is whether or not the Roku Streaming Stick + client has the Live TV grid functionality. And if not, what clients could I purchase that would have that functionality?
Grid guide is not available on Roku yet. It may be the last client not to have it. Plex says it is on the way, but no date given. There is a beta version of the Roku client available (search for roku-beta tag here), and it’s guide is a little better, but still not the grid.
Actually I don’t think the xbox has the grid either according to my son.
Maybe it just seems like Roku is the last because I need the grid for my wife before I can cut the cord and I am impatient
Approaching the problem from the other side, now that we know that there are a multitude of platforms/devices that DO NOT support the Live TV grid functionality (yet?), which ones DO? Looking for either a stand alone box or a HDMI stick format with a dedicated remote control.
