Plex Live TV unable to cast to TV?!

I just set up Live TV for my Plex server using a HDHomeRun Dual. (I have a Plex Pass.) I waited 45 minutes for the eguide to finish setting up. (That was crazy, btw, I have a high-end fiber connection and an uber server.) I can tune into and watch channels just fine. However, when I try casting to my Chromecast TV (4K, LG model 55L621U), I get the Plex popup error: “Live TV playback is not currently supported when connected to a remote player.”

WTF?!!

My phone casts to my TV fine, so does my table, and everything in my Chrome browser* casts fine…except Plex. Why is Plex lobotomized like this? If I can’t cast TV to my TV, that sounds like the most basic TV feature is a major FAIL on Plex.

I’m assuming my Plex software is borked and will be fixed? If this basic feature isn’t broken, when will it work?

It’s been like this ever since they released the Live TV function.
I’m not sure if it is a hardware/software issue or a licensing issue wherein Plex isn’t allowed to “re-broadcast” a live tv broadcast unless they are able to comply with regulations. If my memory serves me right, Slingbox ran into something like this with their service.

I’m with you though. I would love to be able to access my local programing while on the road with Chromecast.

Oh major waaah! I hear you, though, probably the likely issue.

I sure hope they solve this deficiency, though…I’ll be damned if I’m going to record the Super Bowl today just so I can watch it on my TV hours later. o.O

Workaround:

  1. Assuming you are an Android device user — load up the Live TV stream via your web browser (Chrome) on your smartphone by navigating to: https://plex.tv/web
  2. Cast your device’s entire screen to your Chromecast while the video is playing. That should allow you to watch the game on your TV.

Alternatively:

  1. From your computer open up Google Chrome and navigate to https://plex.tv/web
  2. Login
  3. Load up the live stream in the web browser
  4. Cast your tab that is playing the live broadcast to your Chromecast

I’m good for now, using the CBS app and casting directly to the TV.
Funny…CBS out-doing Plex. :smiley: That’s like saying Budweiser out-does Sam Adams. lol
