The Plex Mac app lacks some settings for audio output, or at least I can’t seem to find them… Here’s something you should copy from Tidal and/or Audirvana.
The player should be able to choose the output device, use exclusive playback mode and automatically lock the output bitrate / format to that of the media. Playing 48 x n kHz FLAC’s at 44.1 x n kHz and vice versa should definitely be considered a crime.
Unfortunately, Mac’s happily resample everything even with a dual-clock high-quality DDC/DAC attached, unless the output format is explicitly set, after which they happily resample everything to that new rate, unless… And so on. One needs to manually change rates with the “Audio MIDI Setup” application (comes with the OS), which sucks, badly.
It should also be possible to lock volume and playback speed permanently at 100% (ie. disable the controls) to keep output bit-perfect.
Count me in as very interested in this as well. I have a mix of 44.1k files and 96k files and I want to set the right sampling rate for bit-perfect playback. It would be great if I did not have to manually go to the audio mixer to do so.
Any news at all on the Mac front? At v1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d, still no audio settings at all, not even device selection.
Sad, how the formerly de-facto AV platform is now the underdog. Plex lacks sound quality, Audirvana remote isn’t useable yet, no satisfactory solutions…
All unixy nerds use Mac’s now, one would think that’d be a big part of the Plex devs as well; Do they even know how coreaudio is raping their precious bits??
Plus 1 on the audio controls. As much as I would like to use Plex for audio its consistent miss on the features and settings people who value audio quality is disheartening. So its either JRiver or Roon on a Mac. I cant believe I cant set audio output to use my usb dac to play my 24 bit encoded files as they are meant to be played. Shame.
