Hello all,

Plex media library no longer updating automatically when new media files added. What may be the issue and how do I solve this so that it updates when new media is added

Plex Dance:
Move files out to where not monitored
Scan files for the library (let it finish)
Empty Trash
Clean bundles (Also let this finish)
Optimize Database (AND THIS TOO)
Now move it back.

Not much else to do, its a Plex “feature” to decide randomly you didnt really want too add more

Sorry can you re explain this? Not sure what you mean by Move files and back in?

Move them from your movie folder to some other folder that Plex doesn’t see. Then move them back to your Plex movie folder.

There’s loads of movies I will need to move… once put back in won’t that mean it has to do a full rescan of all those movies?

I’m not 100% sure how that works. But I don’t think it will be a big issue.

Under Settings > Library what do you have checked like below?

Well… Are you 100% sure you’re putting the media in the folder that Plex is looking at ?

I just did these steps for one of the folders but the movies are not scanning automatically. Still shows folder being empty…

Yes as I’ve had these settings and folder setup like this for many years and it’s jus now it’s stopped scanning

I just tested the auto scan on mine and it worked.

  • I would stop your server
  • Restart it (wait a couple of min)
  • Move a movie out of the folder Plex looks at
  • Trigger a manual scan of movies (confirm Plex doesn’t see said movie)
  • Move the movie back in to the Plex folder
  • Then download your logs and post the entire .zip file here.

Maybe someone smarter than me can look at them.

I got the same issue, but “when” it appears is very random
Try stopping your plex server and start it again! After that, it works again for me for a while, until it reappears

This appeared for the first time something like 2-3 months ago. I’m still on version 1.43.0.10346

For each of your library sections / shared folders containing media you index into PMS.

  1. FileStation
  2. Hightlight the shared folder → Properties
  3. Let DSM count the number of Files and Folders in that shared folder
  4. Write down the number of folders it reports
  5. Repeat for the next shared folder with media

The goal is to find out how many folders are currently in use,
round up to the next multiple of 32768 (or two) to allow for growth space,
tune the DSM notify table size to accommodate the number of folders to monitor

When you’re done ,

  1. total up all the folder counts
  2. round that up to the next integral multiple of 32768

Use this FAQ to increase the size of the Notify table (which is small on Synology)

I’ve already got this set up and still not updating the media folders automatically. Seems like Plex is becoming very greedy with charging customers but making all these new updates and makes things not work. My servers been working all this time but now becoming ridiculous having to update folders manually
