Plex Media Player 3.0 feedback

You just need to reset the player customizations. The 3.0.0.24 app doesn’t work with saved settings from a previous version of PMP.

Ok that worked. Thanks.

more problems;

  • SUBTITLES do not display with “Direct Play” enabled. Wasn’t this a bug from the early 2.0 versions? Why isn’t this fixed already?

  • SUBTITLES that do display with “Direct Play” disabled are not customizable; I selected blended yellow and “huge” and they are still white and small. why don’t my settings do anything?

  • seeking forward/backward when watching a movie now produces a bright white screen when buffering (with Direct Play off because of subtitles… lame). Before it produced a black screen which was not as harsh on the eyes when watching movies at night.

So far 3.x is looking like it’s taking a step backwards.

Running PMP 3.0.0.32 on MAC, showing a glitch whilst opening into full screen problems + also still shows the OS menu bar above the player. Thanks

No audio(Ac3) with 3.0.0.24 and no video with 3.0.0.32, I am using nvidia gtx 610 and Win 7. Everything is working fine with 2.55 x64bit.

Running PMP 3.0.0.32, updated Plex Server to 1.19.1.2701 and now getting video files either with audio skipping or buffering issues or video files not playing audio at all.

I was excited when I found this 3.0 preview. I installed the current 3.0.0.32 and started testing the issues I was having with the current v2. Sure enough it seemed to fix it. I had issue with Plex coming back from screensaver. It was minimized but not really… if I push another button, it pops up and does whatever I just pushed. Quite aggravating, so I was ecstatic when I found this fixed it.

Unfortunately, I now can’t actually watch videos :stuck_out_tongue: It merely shows the blurred screen while I hear the audio.

I’m REALLY hoping it gets to the point where I can stop using Plex for my remote connections and Kodi for my local viewing/live tv. I hate having both, but the Windows experience just isn’t quite there yet.

Version 3.104.2

When switching from TV to Desktop mode it doesn’t remember the setting for “Preview the new Plex experience” and reverts it to unchecked.

Do you have the “Native OpenGL” setting turned on? I think you’re having the same issue I was having. Turning off the Native OpenGL fixed the video playback, but the UI loaded slower. I ended up going back to 3.0.0.24, where I don’t have these issues with Native OpenGL enabled.

Will there be anymore update to Plex Media Play 3.0?

I think it turned into Plex for Mac/Windows.

I believe (and could be wrong, the product roadmap hasn’t been clarified or announced) the apps have different functions:

Plex app - For non-HTPC users, focuses on the Plex Web UI.
Plex Media Player 3 - An updated version of the current PMP, focuses on the HTPC/“10-foot” UI

The original plan was to deprecate PMP and have only the Plex app. There was significant pushback from HTPC users who need a large UI and remote navigation. PMP 3 was the result.

EDIT:
If you check the latest post in the PMP v3 Preview thread, that’s more or less confirmed:

Just a heads up that 3.0 updating isn’t yet complete. We’ll come back to it as soon as we can.

I appreciate the comment. I actually gave up on Plex. Since it didn’t have a guide on the PC application version, I went back to Kodi. It’s sad really. I do like Plex.

patiently waiting for a new version, hopefully with new features built into it as well (skip intro, etc)
3.0 is what i have been running for months and it has been working great for me.

Plex team thank you for making PMP available again! I missed it while it was not available on the Plex website for a few months. PMP for Mac is far superior to the Kodi Plex client for Mac. Thank you thank you thank you! I like the advanced ssa subtitle support, the interface, the layout, the graphics, the animations, that the video quality client settings work properly, and especially that it works well with a usb remote control.

Agree, it is so much better UI then Kodi Plex client, but still not able to call external player. it is the divide between the two, the UNO UI is far better with PMP then Kodi Plex client, but Kodi Plex client can call external player…what to do, what to do. maybe one day in the future the PMP will allow external play and i can finally uninstall Kodi.

The layout is not scaling well on my 4K TV:

Edited to add: that screenshot was taken after launching the app and pressing F11 to go fullscreen. If I then quit the app and restart it, it starts fullscreen and the text layout is better.

However, video playback is very jerky. Version 2 was much smoother but didn’t appear to handle HDR properly, which I was hoping would be fixed in version 3, since the new “desktop” app apparently does support HDR properly but doesn’t have the 10ft UI.

Where are we at with an update to PMP that supports Intro Skip, Plex Live TV, Photos screen saver??

I’m surviving because Plex Media Player 3.0 beta works on my NUC. Skipping to chapters during playback results in strange behaviour.
I got sick of all the attempts to end Plex on Windows and grabbed a Nvidia Shield Pro. A big disappointment. Some files simply won’t play without stuttering and more (audio) problems. Quickly returned this flagship.
Plex was a pleasure during the last years on Samsung, NUC’s and Roku. The Roku also failed me because once I got a new amplifier because TrueHD, DTS MA etc. isn’t supported. Plex on my Android TV also fails because TrueHD etc isn’t available on HDMI (on my TV it isn’t)
What remains is a NUC with a buggy and possible end of life Plex Media Player.

Kodi isn’t my cup of tea. Any alternatives for Plex??

Very sad…

Plex Media Player is still going to be around for a while. I’m running a NUC as a home theater PC and using Plex Media Player 2.58.0.1076 without any issues at all.

I also have three (3) Nvidia Shield Pro devices. I do not have any problems with the Plex app. I absolutely love these steaming boxes, for me they provide the best 4K video of any of my media players at home. Note that I am not using the Plex Media Server on these devices.

I also gave Kodi a try, but I don’t like the app either.

As for alternatives to Plex, I have heard about Channels DVR as well as Emby and JRiver Media Center. I have no experience with these other options and have no plans to try them out since Plex has been working out well for me.
