Plex Media Player 3.0 feedback

Playback and browsing works but it doesn’t have feature parity with PMP yet. We are in the process of adding this functionality but PMP is so feature-rich it takes time to do so. It’s worth noting that PMP has features that no other clients has.

To answer your prior list, in its current state it has skip intro and watch together is coming to it (don’t know of the timing though). Audio/sub delay settings (along with PMP’s input handling) are currently in progress. And my favorite, it already has the OpenPHT library artwork screensaver.

Thanks for the quick response!
You certainly know how to make us excited!

PMP4 is sounding incredibly promising, hopefully I’ll be able to ditch OpenPHT after all these years!

Hopefully the release isn’t too far away, long overdue for a HTPC release that includes the current feature set and The media screensaver will be a nice touch as well!

Many thanks for the update @gbooker02 - Definitely very comforting to know that stuff is happening

EDIT: And actually also a big thanks to @elan to being open to getting some info out there like this… It really makes a world of difference! :+1:

The possibility of a Plex Media Player v4 (or TV layout app) makes me very happy.
Looking forward to it!

@gbooker02 these updates have great value for us, thank you for that

Man I love PMP, and as-is it’s great, but I’d love to have a little more control over the tone mapping of HDR. That’s all I really want, and it’d be perfect.

I use an Epson 5040ub projector, and HDR can be so finicky.

Just wanted to stop in and say thank you for still working on this! We appreciate it!

I suspect you may have missed an issue surrounding PMP, that the Plex organisation has introduced an aura of disquiet regarding this player and it’s continued availability and support which is difficult to suppress. Going back to 2015 it is clear that something unknown to the general user is driving Plex to abandon the player, that being highly questionable claims that it would save electricity, I mean this is a BS reason if ever I heard one.

As for the additional hardware devices that are available, they are always a poor substitute because they are so quickly superseded and generally cannot be upgraded, atmos is good example. The built in apps on TVs are another mine field.

Some of the issues are not apparent in a LAN environment but quickly become so in a WAN environment.

PMP is also based on mpv which is the still the best video player available.

Could you give us any sort of indication as to when this might become a reality?
I find myself checking the forums a lot for any sort of news on this.
Is there a beta program or even a mailing list that could notify us?

Desperado status here haha

I can’t give you any estimate; all I can say is soon. Though when something is posted on the forums this thread will likely be closed as the next version will supplant 3.0.

Thanks @gbooker02 :+1:

Super excited to hear about PMPv4  I have grown tired of fiddling with streaming devices and can’t wait to try this on my Mac Mini. Starting to feel like Christmas time already lol jk

I just finished reading through this whole thread, and ended up being very pleased to hear Plex Media Player v4 is in the works and will be available “soon”.

No idea if that means weeks or months (probably the latter) but I am very excited to get my hands on it, the continued support of your fans is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

PMP v3 suffers from a couple of issues. The text does not scale if changing the desktop text scaling in Windows settings (for those with eyesight issues). Also, where is the ability to set ratings on tracks and albums? Safe to assume these will be fixed/return in v4?

TIA!

Hey folks, we just announced a forum preview of our brand new Plex HTPC app (this is the “PMPv4” alluded to earlier). We figured some folks in this thread might be interested to try it out

Give it a spin and let us know what you think!

Given that HTPC is now in a forum preview status which is the same status that PMPv3 achieved, PMPv3 can be considered to have been supplanted. As such, I’m closing this thread so discussion of HTPC doesn’t get fragmented with discussion of it here.

I’ve opened a generic feedback thread for HTPC if you wish to continue the discussion there.
