I was a bit surprised to discover the only officially maintained Plex App for Windows 10 is missing Sync?
I recently moved from an ipad which i watch offline content on while flying and on the train where i can’t be online.
My new machine is a Surface Book2 great machine it does everything well but Plex doesn’t have Sync which i found a bit shocking.
I ended up downloading the Plex app off the Windows Store which has sync but hasn’t been patched since 2014.
It runs relatively well but a bit buggy, right now there is no other choice.
Any chance you can add in Sync to the Offical maintained app please guys.
Looks like a lot of people are stuck with the old Windows App which is EOL.
I see a lot of other development has got a lot of love can Windows get some please
The mobile sync feature, as the name implies, is only available on our mobile apps. Unfortunately, as you found out, the Plex for Windows app hasn’t been updated in quite some time. Unfortunately, I don’t have any information on if/when the Windows app may get an update, or if there is another sync solution.
So since I also changed from an iPad to a Windows based tablet, how am I supposed to watch a movie offline on my tablet if there isn’t a sync capability for windows?
Since most of my movies are blu-ray, it is not practical to copy ~30GB files onto my table just so I can watch a movie. If there isn’t a solution, then I guess my lifetime Plex Pass is useless unless I want to by an Android or iOS device and ditch my new Windows tablet
Plex is looking at this issue, but we don’t have anything to share yet. We do want to provide a solution, we just don’t have one yet. For now, the Windows Store app is the only choice if you need offline Sync.
Plex have claimed to have been looking at this issue for 3+ years. The best solution, if you are a Surface user, is to ditch Plex altogether since they don’t appear to have either the will or the ability to support the Windows 10 platform properly.
This has been discussed many times here, and Plex never give a conclusive answer.
That’s pretty depressing. I recently moved to a Windows machine and ditched my ipad. The Windows store version is okay but I can’t work out how to remove/manage synced content and yeah, it hasn’t been updated for ages.
It is depressing. Even more depressing is the number of fake reviews for the Plex Windows Store app, which say things like “all the problems are fixed with the recent bug fixes”.
There have been no recent bug fixes, so it makes you wonder how those reviews came to be written…
Even more obnoxious is that it has a sync button, that will even tell you it’s synced. Gotta love getting on a flight and trying to play a movie that you thought you synced only to have it try and play it over the inflight internet… which works about as well as you might expect.
If the app store version is the official way to get offline sync in Windows 10, how about making sync actually, you know, WORK? I’ve attempted to sync movies, and it says it’s synced, but there’s nothing in the sync folder and when I attempt to play, it plays from the server. That doesn’t work so good over inflight internet.
The Sync errors have finally gotten to me. Been using Plex since it was an addon to XBMC back in the early 2000’s.
I really don’t understand whoever is driving the project direction. it seems to be more about adding features like Music Streaming than Video Streaming.
I believe Video Streaming is core the Plex it was built for that purpose.
Why on earth are we stuck with a client that is so poorly maintained, Offline Sync is a critical part of the Plex application.
I would almost say Offline Sync is 90% of your Premium Subscription user base.
Why is Offline Sync for Windows treated with such contempt this application hasn’t had a patch for 4 years.
We are not asking for a rolling patch cycle of quarterly just one every 5 years at very least? surely it can’t be that hard to fix these Sync issues, a Dev guy with a week of time on his hands?
I haven’t looked at other options before Plex has always been my go to but its so hard to work around all the bugs in the Windows Plex App.
