Is it possible to sync movies and/or videos from My PMS to a windows laptop running Windows 10 (1803)? There are 2 locations where I use the laptop that do not have internet access and need to be able to view the videos offline. Thanks
yes if you use plex media player UWP ( from windows store), it will not work with desktop version of plex media player
Thanks. That solved the immediate problem. I appreciate your reply.
Now to figure out is the UWP version is just a pure dog or I have something wrong with my setup. The UWP is nowhere as responsive as the ‘desktop’ version and navigation is completely different and non-intuitive.

i know, unfortunately that is the single application we can use for sync in windows 10
I’ve got the same issue. Can you explain what the “plex media player UWP” is? I’ve done a search of the store, and can’t find it.
Thanks,
PLEX UWP (universal windows platform) is the plex app from windows store, i fix my problem by uninstalling the application and reinstalling and i was able to sync again
Thanks for the prompt response. I will uninstall all Plex stuff on my laptop.
Now I am trying to use the Web App. Is that what I should use? I should I use Plex from the Microsoft Store?, or use the Plex Media Player from here - https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app
This whole system kind of confuses me.
I have Plex Media Server installed on a desktop at my house/office.
I can play to an Fire TV thing, but always connected.
I’d like to play on my laptop or phone or tablet when not connected to the internet - that is one of the main reasons I bought the lifetime subscription.
If I am using my laptop - I can use:
- Windows app from the Microsoft store
or - Browser - app.plex.tv
or - PLex Media Player - separate program to download
When using any version - at the top left appears the name of my server. This can be changed to “This Device, local and synced content”. I assume after items have been synced, I should be able to change to “This Device” as my source, disconnect from the internet, and be able to watch anything that I have synced locally.
Do I have the basics right?
Also - the name of my device is different in the store app from the Browser app. They are both listed as the same version in the “Devices” list, but have different names, depending on where I named the device (laptop). Ie I named it “Laptop” in the Windows Control Panel, but labeled it “Laptop Thing”
well, depends if you want to use the sync feature. I have both app installed, Plex Media Player for Windows (the link you provided) and Plex Player from windows store that allows me to sync the content if i want, that is good if you have a laptop or tablet with windows 10, for desktop i find better plex media player, feature is available only on plex from windows store ( what you see on plex media player for windows about sync, that is to send to a device in order to sync).
also hop on discord if you want https://discord.gg/eTqUBpz plex chanel and you find me under the name Seven #9396
PS: i forgot to mention that you can rename the name in Plex player from windows store so you can know which one to sync, but to make the sync you open plex player (uwp) and select a show and you have in the bottom right a sync button ) also you can change the location of your sync content
Hi Seveen. Thanks again for the prompt response.
I want to be able to watch movies on my laptop when I don’t have an internet connection. I think that means I need to ‘Sync’ the movies to my laptop when connected to the internet.
I tried this through the windows store app, and through the plex media player. It now appears to have synced the shows I picked - but says 'Waiting to Download". I’m not sure what is going to get the shows to download.
Am I mis-understanding this whole sync thing? I thought the point was to allow you access to library items when you don’t have access to the Plex Media Server?
after the sync is done then yes you should press download, then if you go offline your media should appear under local on your Plex (UWP)
You need to press the sync button again when it says that it is waiting to download.
