Plex Media Player or Plex for Windows causing high CPU and GPU

Server Version#:1.20.4.3517
Player Version#:2.58.0.1076-38e019da or 1.22.0.1421-be6a7c42

For several versions of the clients I have used, I have noticed that the CPU and GPU usage gets high to cause the fans to kick in on either my Surfacebook or a Dell E7470 laptop
Even direct playing a playlist of 5 480p TV episodes, after a few minutes the CPU is running around 30% and GPU similar, causing the fans to kick in.
Running on batteries it will only play for around 1.5 - 2 hrs on the Surfacebook before the battery saver kicks in.

Just playing the same video files via an SMB share using Win10 Video app, the CPU only hits around 5% and GPU highest spikes 10% on copy.
The fans dont even kick in even after 2hrs of playing video.
I can play around 6hrs of video on the Surfacebook before the battery saver kicks in.

What is causing the high CPU and GPU with plex direct playing, when it is not seen in Win10 video app?

It’s not only when playing video, even idle plex used way more cpu than necessary. As you said, it’s been like this for a number of versions.

Yes running the web player on either Chrome or Edge the CPU and GPU is low compared to the PMP or Plex for Windows

Web player sits around 4 - 8% cpu with GPU occasionally spiking to 10%

Something added to the desktop clients that is doing some background processing which is causing higher CPU and battery drain
