High CPU usage Plex for Windows

As the previous topic is closed: New Plex app - high cpu usage

Installed the latest version the other day to see if anything has improved but CPU usage seems to have gotten worse.
Tautulli shows me the file is direct playing, and CPU varies between 12 and 20% on my Surface Pro 7. Needless to say, battery life is severely reduced when using Plex.
For laughs I tried using the old Windows store app that I still have installed, and that never gets above 4%.
The Emby windows store app is the same, and barely uses any CPU at all as it likely uses the same playback engine as the old windows store app.

Yeah, I went back to PMP so that I can hear what is happening, cause with Plex for Windows, the fan in my NUC sounds like a vacuum cleaner!

Same here. My CPU shoots up to 30% and the fans start blasting when I run the Windows client on my laptop. It’s around 3% when I use the web version.

I have noticed this on my Surfacebook and a Dell E7470 laptop
Playing via an SMB share using Win10 video player, cpu and gpu are hardly used hitting arround 5-8% and gpu 10 - 15% on copy, can play videos for hours without the fan even kicking in. Can play 6hrs of video before it goes into power saver mode.

Run the same with either Plex Media Player or Plex for Windows, even direct play a 480p or 720p video the cpu hits 30% and gpu jumps anywhere between 40 - 60%. the fans just hit max speed within a few mins of playing. So the volume has to be cranked up.
Running on battery only get around 1.5 -2hrs before the battery saver mode kicks in
