This looks like PMP is adapting to an incorrect DPI or ā€˜scaling factor’ of your display.
Try to find a suitable setting in your desktop manager’s preferences.

If that fails, you can try to use a command line parameter for PMP
--scale-factor=0.8 (you can experiment with the numbers of course)
I cannot tell you how to incorporate this parameter into the shortcut for starting PMP, because I have no personal experience with Linux.
But I’m sure there is a way.

This scaling factor has only an impact on the ā€˜windowed’ mode, AFAIK.

Great work as usual, thanks for keeping these builds updated!

I’m still not getting hardware acceleration, or frame rate sync as of the latest builds.

Is there any way to tweak it or force it? Can I give you any more info?

Cheers,

G.

I can’t seem to get this running on my arch system. I’ve tried multiple versions and all crash. Wonder if it has to do with my QT version?

[david@arch Downloads]$ sudo pacman -Qs qt

just stopping by to say this fixed it for me.
what you need to do is to go into your application’s properties and add --scale-factor=0.8 %U after the quotes ā€œā€. so ā€œā€ --scale-factor=0.8 %U - and click save. the stuff inside quotes i think are just pointing towards the location of the app, there isn’t a need to change it. and make sure to play around with the scale-factor number to get it to your liking.
thanks a lot OttoKerner for the information.

how to edit the appImage

there are other ways im sure, but heres how i did it -
open up the whisker menu or start menu or whatever its called.
search for plex media player, right click and press edit application.
from there you should be able to see a command section.
append or add --scale-factor=0.8 %U
save and you should be good to go. you’ll also need to do this seperately if you add it to the panel.

edit : actually a better way is to install alacarte - sudo apt-get install alacarte - this’ll give you a gui to edit properties. super cool main menu of sorts!

Excellent. Thank you so much  Lifesaver

Just installed in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and although all works with no error messages, my Harmony (IR) remote seems to act as if it has a key stuck (eg. it scrolls to the top, bottom, side, etc of a list depending on which key I hit).

Remote works fine in Kodi, and I’m pretty sure it isn’t the remote itself as I can hit ā€œdownā€ then cover the IR sensor or even take out the batteries, and Plex still keeps scrolling down until bottom.

I’m seeing lots of reports of this flickering, but has anyone fixed it? It’s impacting me on Arch and I can’t find a solution anywhere in this thread.

I have not fixed it, keep updating my system and PMP in hopes that it will go away.
Video playback is smooth though.

Shame. Playback is smooth for me as well, but it’s a rather annoying bug outside of that.

It wasn’t happening until I switched from Ubuntu 18.04 over to Arch. Wonder if it has something to do with newer Mesa drivers? Don’t know for sure.

Hi @Knapsu,

Here we are, nearly 1 year on and still working great. However, I have not been good with updates, mainly because i didn’t need them. Finally got round to trying the latest build and unable to get the app to recognise the hdmi audio devices of my system. Tried all 2.x builds on the main pooage and all the same.

PMP only lists the built in audio device in stereo which doesn’t even work and will not show any of the Intel PCH hdmi audio device options. It is an intel i5 system using motherboard hdmi output to onkyo AV receiver.

I managed to scroll back to my comment around a year ago, grab the title of the version before my comment paste that in place of your latest links and thank god it still existed on the server. I have rolled back to 2.2.1.758-5dad2d62 and it works a treat, I have a list of about 17 audio devices to choose from as oppose to the 1 in the latest updates. Simply selecting HDMI Audio Output works fine.

Please can you index the directory on the server where you store all your builds so I can grab and try each one in turn at some point and figure out on what version this bug appears? Unless you have any idea how to fix this issue, I really would like to get on board with the latest updates if I can resolve the audio issue. Finding at what build this issue first appears is the best place to start.

Cheers, keep up the great work, much appreciated!

after trying several other media players such as VLC and SMPlayer for Debian Linux, I came across the Plex Media Player.
you download it, make it executable and it works.
fantastic, great and thank you very much.

Right - the best MEDIA player, better than VLC/SMPlayer etc is actually MPV.

Try it, it’s gorgeous.

The new Plex Player was created to get away from the XBMC and start fresh using MPV.

So the best two ways to play video - 1. MPV and 2. for Plex browsing experience is PMP.

What I love best when launching video in MPV, especially when I’m not using fullscreen, you see just video and no black borders - and the window is sized to the video.

Look at mpv.conf and input.conf to learn about how to control it (no menus there…).

Sadly I miss the onscreen clock display with time left display I had with OpenPHT and the older PHT. Also the ability to browse movies as thumbnails (showing posters) with about 1/3 screen showing full info. PMP has limited viewing options and thus feels more clunky in that regard having to enter a new screen to get the info.

I am also very interested in your findings. It might be connected to using a different compilation options by me. In May 2018 I turned off suppport for very old Open Sound System (OSS), and in July 2018 for ALSA, leaving only PulseAudio.

Is this an MPV issue?

I previously had ā€˜fun’ tweaking mpv.conf to suit my system - and after having this same issue with audio, I edited -

audio-device=alsa/default
audio-spdif=dts-hd,truehd,eac3,ac3

With MPV working nicely, PMP had no issues. Now it plays pulseaudio and dolby gets passed through.

Hey @Knapsu, excellent work. I’ve been watching for 2.20 since it’s release on your website, are you still packaging them?

Hey @pbenzschawel.

I’ve uploaded version 2.20.0.909-46413dd1 to the site. Grab it while its hot!

Unfortunately every upload now needs to be done manually by me as automatic check scripts from Travis build system are one again being blocked by GitHub…
