So, this might be a somewhat silly question but, what are the main differences between Plex Media Player and the Plex Windows App … on Windows 10.
As a casual Windows PC user, what are the advantages of using the Plex Media Player app over the Plex Windows App available on the store?
Ok, so from what I see there’s a difference on the underlying video player and probably, because of that a difference in supported file formats for direct play. So PMP is a superior app than the Windows store one?
If used in a HTPC environment, then yes. Most likely so. I personally like the store version since it comes with the capability to sync. Great when travelling for instance.
It all depends on usage. PMP is more geared towards HTPC usage and doesn’t work well with touch, whereas the store app is touch optimised for devices like Surface pro and other touch devices. And as mentioned above, sync, which is brilliant.
Thanks for the answers guys. I’m going to do some extensive testing on both versions. From what I see now the Windows store version seems to use a bit more CPU. Does this app have support for DXVA? I can’t seem to find settings related to video and audio playback.
That’s difference, PMP has a video engine which can handle most in an efficient manner. The app store client doesn’t, which could create such behaviour as high CPU on certain files. You can use both and altet between them depending on situation. A such situation that requires advanced video settings for instance (geared more towards HTPC) is ideal for PMP.
