Plex Media Player/Web App does not support my Plex Media Server

I need advice as been using Plex for over the last 5 years and have been very impressed with the applications and managing all my devices. However over the last few months, it seems that my Plex experience is coming to an end as Plex Media Player is no longer supporting my Server.

I have many different devices, I connect to my Plex Media Server but the Players have now been updated. (Eg - Roku stick, LG webOS TV, Computer) that are no longer support older Plex Media Server

Unfortunately I have an old Synology Diskstation DS213 (Linux 2.6.32.12) running Plex Media Server 0.9.16.6.1993-5089475. My Synology no longer supports or allows me to update to the latest Plex Media Server so I can no longer update it.

Am I able to download older Plex Media Player so I can still connect to my Plex Media Server for Windows. Or can someone provide me a link to previous version and make sure that I turn off AutoUpdate. Also the Web App no longer allows me to support Playback as the Server is no longer supportive.

Any feedback much appreciated.

Get a mini PC (e.g. an Intel NUC) and install a current version of Plex server onto it.
This will allow you to continue to use the NAS as media storage.

If I get a Mini PC, do I connect this directly to the NAS drive or to my Router directly to then use my NAS Media Storage.

Would I need one with Ethernet connection or Wireless as not fully up to speed on the connectivity for this Mini PC.

Would something like this work - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0791ZL3PM/ref=asc_df_B0791ZL3PM58599264/?tag=googshopuk-21&creative=22146&creativeASIN=B0791ZL3PM&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310802245808&hvpos=1o3&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15017967391022452205&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046030&hvtargid=aud-543776533562%3Apla-488101741891&th=1

For the sake of simplicity, connect it per wire to your router (or to an additional ethernet switch, if the router doesn’t have sufficient number of ethernet ports).

I recommend wired wherever possible, particluarly for media storage and server.

The machine you linked to has only 64 GB SD card as “hard drive”.
And a meagre Atom CPU. Maybe this will suffice as a replacement for your existing cpu in your NAS, but it won’t be an improvement.

If you want to future-proof your server for 4K and HEVC, go for something like this

(you still need to add RAM and an SSD)

Thank you for you post, its a shame that Plex has allowed future version to not be backward compatible and they should make users download pervious players on different platform to still work with Plex Media Server (e.g. Roku, WebOS etc)

I was looking for a cheap replacement for the Plex Media Server as my NAS Plex version is not supported. Going for something you have mention, I would be best buying a brand new Synology NAS.

Is there not a cheaper option under £150 for a mini PC?

Cheaper, yes. But not better than what you have now.

Well I don’t have anything right now, as my Roku Plex was updated and is no longer compatible with Plex Media Server on my NAS, WebOS on my LG TV is not compatible either with my NAS Drive.

So only possible way to stream my movies via my TV is going to my FileShare on my LG TV and picking the file directly. It has no fancy GUI or the Album Cover so not very use friendly for the kids.
And the other way is using my Raspberry Pi2 which unfortunately is now slow and clunky with all the movies i have on my Media Server.

Any server that is speedy in processing Hundreds of Album covers on both device would be preferred. Plex used to be great and its a shame this has happen.

What are you running on it? ‘PMP embedded’ or something else?

Nothing else is run on the Raspberry Pi 2 - Just using OSMC. Might need to format it and start again.

Just found that viewing the album covers with Icon Flow was slow, so now change format to be list mode.

Have you tried to use the Kodi Plex4Kodi add-on? (presuming you can use it on OSMC)
