Server Version#: 0.9.16.6
Player Version#:7.6.2.7169
I currently have Plex server running on my Netgear readynas 4 ultra, I run the LG tv app and the android mobile app as players. Up until recently this has not been a problem. Yesterday I logged into my tv app find that the player now needed a minimum version of 1.5.1, and found that my phone had the same problem.
I logged into the plex website hosted by the server and checked for updates, and it said it was up to date (with that much older version number). I logged into the main plex downloads to check comparability to find my hardware no longer listed. I downloaded the netgear installs for plex, and when verifying them on the NAS itself, they confirmed incompatibility.
So now, to continue using Plex I have to upgrade all my hardware (which will be hundreds of dollars).
Assuming maintaining backwards compatibility with hardware potentially by branching server versions isn’t viable. Surely with the mobile, can you not release the old version of the app as a new app for those who are unable to upgrade the server to the latest version. I understand that the tv apps would be difficult to have branched versions.
