Plex Media Scanner constantly at over 190% CPU usage since last update

same issue here and this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this happen with plex media scanner… what I would recommend as a workaround outside of downgrading would be to download a third-party piece of software called BES that allows you to from the processes if you have a CPU like mine that can’t run at 100% for more than a few minutes without ‘issues’ http://mion.faireal.net/BES/

but will it catch all the mediascanner multiple processes? i have seen up to 10 running.
i have not run plex for weeks and am rather annoyed

Just spotted this. Might be the same issue I’m seeing? Does this sound similar to the experience in this thread?

so another month and no action on this?
i have not updated plex for months…
really guys. this is ridiculous

Add me to those affected as well. Mac OS Sierra on a Mac mini. Felt the computer was BOILING hot. Checked activity monitor, PMS stick at 120% CPU and program guide not loading.

This is a CRITICAL bug yet it has gone on for 2 months now.

There’s a new PMS version just uploaded. I actually downgraded before this was uploaded (literally happened while I was on the plex.tv site), which corrected the programme guide behaviour. I did a database repair too since the guide is super slow and then once I saw it was working updated to the latest. The data is loading fine on that version too. I assume it’s the version not the DB repair. I’m on Ubuntu. CPU was at 120% last night. Now on normal. Might come back again though, but Programme guide fixed by the looks.

The high cpu issue for most of us (definitely me) in this ticket is about the Loudness Analysis that was add several months ago and is crashing at least my computer. I have many large mp3 and wav files bec mine are mainly opera and classical concerts like symphonies… and other shows that are 2-3-6 hours long. apparently the programmers didnt think that anyone would have large files and hundreds of them (i actually have thousands) and so the loudness analysis basically hijacks my cpu 100% of the time as plex anlyzes every single file in my libraries …

i have research leaving plex for my audio files but Roon has no remote capability so that sucks.

its not a hard fix
just create an OPTION TO ENABLE OR DISABLE THE LOUDNESS ANALYSIS

but apparently no one cares

(there are several other tickets with this issue )
BTW my OS is windows

These are being addressed following investigations on this forum topic https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/304534/plex-media-scanner-runaway-process-loudnessscanner/p1 - the thread is already linked in here in this post http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1598277/#Comment_1598277

@sogalitno Interesting, yes I’ve started using Roon too, Plex guys seem to think because their software supports 24bit 96k etc that that’s all the audio quality work that needs to be done. So I sprung for a lifetime Roon at 700 odd. That crypto turned out to be useful after all

I have large files too, but not as many, those would be huge! But I have amassed a huge amount of smaller files30-1GB each, hopefully fixed soon!

Plex Media Server beta release 1.12.0.4829 has just been released

It has improvements to how the loudness deep analysis is perfomed

See Release Note

  • Fix an issue where loudness analysis was performed simultaneously on the same library (#8021)
  • Fix loudness analysis on libraries taking up large amounts of memory (#8071)

Further Info:

There is now a server setting for controlling the loudness deep analysis

Settings -> Server -> Library which has a drop-down selection for Analyze audio tracks for loudness

This is not yet documented on the support articles

seriously please let the PTB know how grateful I am … I can now update to this version… THANK YOU!!!

I just updated to the latest version, and I got multiple Plex Media Scanner processes now hammering my CPU, for no apparent reason :frowning:

Edit: Just restarted after updating, and it stopped. Sorry For posting prematurely

Okay, sorry for posting again. But I still got an issue, in regards to the latest additions to my server.
It loaded all the metadata from thetvdb, except for the artwork.
Now, when I rescan the shows that didn’t get any artwork, after the latest update, it doesn’t scan so I can see it in the activity log like normally, but the process, Plex Media Scanner uses cpu, and nothing happens…

Please raise a separate new forum topic for this with server logs and screenshots following scan of new addition to the library
