Plex Media Server 1.24.6.5145 - New Transcoder Preview

From what i remember i just installed the .deb package inside docker, and then checked under ‘Settings → General → Version’ and it was right.

Now my container has downgraded when i “updated” and now i am down on version 1.24.4.5081. But i hade the same issues with 1.24.6.5145 anyway.

Hmm… if I don’t update the VERSION param then the container hangs on “Starting Plex Media Server” and the UI returns a 404 error.

Ok!
Well from what i remember i could not find somewhere to update version, so i tried without and it worked.

Are you using Unraid and Linuxserver.io container?
As i said before, when the container updates it will downgrade to another version again so i think ill just wait…

Yes, running the linuxserver container. The container updates correctly, and shows the correct version being installed over the old version. But I am unable to access the web UI when I do so. I cleared the VERSION param in the container settings which disables checking for updates on start. Restarting has no effect (web UI still 404s).

Access your server using plex.tv not your local adress.

Yes! I have it working now. After restarting the container, the correct version number shows in the UI.

I’m curious why would plex.tv would work but the local IP address wouldn’t?
Anyway, transcoding was still giving 404 errors but once I specified a temporary transcode location, everything worked.

TESTING: Everything looks good. Video looks as it should. No artefacts yet.

My server crashed entirely with the new official beta with hw transcoding on. Dont work at all for me. Crashing instantly

@Ridley Can I get the source code of this?

Source for the ffmpeg included in PMS (including in beta and preview builds) is available at a URL included in the LICENSE file in the Resources directory of the corresponding PMS install.

I got the latest beta build and the URL provided there will respond with 404.

Ok, twice now the transcoding has failed right at the end of a video. Both times with roughly 3 minutes remaining. The audio continues to play but the video freezes and timeline scrubbing fails resulting in a loading spinner before “Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error”.

I couldn’t see anything in the logs but I’ve downloaded and included them all here: Plex Media Server Logs_2021-10-25_16-48-56.zip (4.4 MB)

Plex 1.24.6.5145 running in Docker on Unraid 6.9.2 on an i7 11700K transcoding with subtitled to a Google TV dongle.

Edit: I am unable to get a sample for one of the files because MKVToolnix does not recognise the file as valid but I have a sample from the first video when it happened.

Attached a sample: sample.zip (11.9 MB)

Transcoding fails with all videos in that series, when it reaches the end of the video.

I had this problem as well but it went away and is now working perfect after upgrading Unraid to 6.10.0rc1.

@Ridley
Is there any news yet about upcoming improvements or known/found bugs in this release?

I just had a random transcoder crash, I can upload the logs if wanted.

Console log (after continuing the stream and enabling debug):

[TranscodeOutputStream] Streaming Session 0x7fd041585618 appears to have died from under us

dmesg error:

[Sun Oct 31 15:53:18 2021] traps: Plex Transcoder[1376133] general protection fault ip:7f7d4e0ff4fe sp:7f7d499f7190 error:0 in liblibx264_encoder.so[7f7d4e0f6000+16f000]

Been playing with the recent HTPC build for Mac, in particular with LiveTV.
Because this build can direct play the live tv stream from my HDHomerun and does not hit the PMS server transcoder, I am able to watch LiveTV again.

UPDATE: The latest web update kills the what’s playing for when Live TV is transcoding.

Am I crazy or are all the download links broken? I just built a new plex server with a i5-1135G7 and had been following this thread prior to purchasing the parts. Guess I should have downloaded the build before I bought everything - I’m now stuck with the crashes everyone else described. I’ve upgraded the kernel to 5.14 generic and installed the intel drivers as outlined in post 307 but I just don’t have the last piece… 1.24.6.5145

Most likely a new build is coming

I wouldn’t hold my breath, given the links have been dead for at least two weeks, and no word.

Hi @Ridley links are broken. Could you please help us with that?

Is there a chance to get a link for the latest preview packages?
