I was able to find the fix! turns out the issue the whole time, from the beginning, was that EasyAudioEncoder. I ran this command to fix it:
sudo chmod +x /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Codecs/EasyAudioEncoder-8f4ca5ead7783c54a4930420-linux-x86_64/EasyAudioEncoder/EasyAudioEncoder

whelp, spoke to soon on the original error, just got 3 more…

That is VERY strange. I need to see why that happened.

PMS is supposed to download the EAE for you (which you did get) and then set it as executable.

VERY strange. I will research and submit a bug report if I can recreate it.

Excellent, thank you sir! :pray:

I think I may have found why EAE was not set as as executable.
In the linux tips it had instructions to do the following:

sudo find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
sudo find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;

this changed EAE as well, which causes the need to do:

sudo chmod +x /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Codecs/EasyAudioEncoder-8f4ca5ead7783c54a4930420-linux-x86_64/EasyAudioEncoder/EasyAudioEncoder

I discovered this last night when I was going over the linux tips again to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
I did the 1st instructions, then noticed in watching sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep "Plex Media Server" that it got the error about EAE again.
So I ran the chmod +x again and that fixed it again.
Perhaps the instructions in the linux tips should be updated to take this into account?

ABSOLUTELY!

Thank you VERY much for catching that oversight.

Please accept my humble apologies for missing it

all good. glad we got that part figured out :+1:t3: :+1:t3: :+1:t3:

still getting Sep 3 04:41:34 einstein Plex Media Server[2843079]: Jobs: failed to set priority, errno=13

but Plex does seem to be working otherwise. Is this error something that is safe to ignore? or does it show some underlying issue that needs to be addressed?

Check the permissions of each directory in this chain

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Codecs/

The plex user needs RW permission and ownership so it can download and then set +x permission.

looks like it has those permissions the whole way:
drwxr-xr-x 4 plex plex 4.0K Aug 12 13:52 plexmediaserver/
drwxr-xr-x 5 plex plex 4.0K Aug 3 15:30 Library/
drwxr-xr-x 17 plex plex 4.0K Sep 5 10:16 ‘Plex Media Server’/
drwxr-xr-x 7 plex plex 4.0K Aug 28 10:16 Codecs/
