Plex Media Server Crashes with seg faults

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892
Player Version#: 7.25.3.14365

I’ve been running Plex on an ubuntu VM (Xeon CPU, 16 cores + 32GB ram on virtual machine) for about two years now without issue. Everything works fine from the web, android app, ios app however with the recent update I’m finding some serious issues when I attempt to use PLEX from Android TV / Firesticks.

I can consistently cause this issue when I attempt to load a TV show on my shield TV. Once a segfault happens the service hangs for a minute or two and recovers so I can use it on my apps again.

So far I’ve only been able to get Andorid TV’s Plex app to stream ONE show after a full reinstall (apt --reinstall plexmediaserver).

Dmesg shows the errors each time I attempt to load a show / “reconnect”:
[ 102.178765] show_signal_msg: 38 callbacks suppressed
[ 102.178767] Plex Media Serv[2892]: segfault at 4d0 ip 0000000001089ad8 sp 00007f7a60ff7dc0 error 4 in Plex Media Server[959000+d58000]
[ 102.812402] random: crng init done
[ 102.812405] random: 7 urandom warning(s) missed due to ratelimiting

There are NO errors from the web or android/ios apps on the server.

Any thoughts short of down grading my server install?

Thanks!

Do you have the DEBUG logs (ZIP file) you can attach here which captures the activity at that time?

I can, just want a full copy of /var/lib/plex… /logs?

If it’s still in the logs (they do rotate out pretty quickly) then a normal tar.gz will do the job.

Please check. if they are in VERBOSE logging mode, it won’t be useful unless it captures the exact moment of failure. VERBOSE logging is only good for about 2 minutes of elapsed time.

verbose logging is NOT enabled, could enable if required.Logs.zip (2.0 MB)

Attached are fresh logs right after dmesg showed the segfault

Thanks for the logs. I do see where it stopped but there was no indication of activity other than something else crashed ( a few times) and started the crash reporting.

Would you mind looking in the “Crash Reports” directory (under Plex Media Server)
to see if there’s a corresponding mini dump file ?

If so, I’ll open a PM for you to send to me. I’ll open in the debugger and see where it failed.

there is a few listed, looking at the dates there’s noting from today:

Please check DM. I’ve opened a message for you to send the ZIP of the 1.18.2.2058

This is an odd one.

Crash with no reports means it uploaded correctly. I will also look to see if the upload completed and what the automated post mortem tells me.

the only thing unique about my setup:

Plex is on a DMZ subnet, firewall rules allow communication with correct ports via NAT rules which have been working 100% for two years.

What’s Odd here (not your ports or communication) is my debugging.

I have the exact binary, exact symbol table, and your dump file. 1.18.2.2058

It keeps telling me I have the wrong version.

This IS 2058 ?
