If it's not there, stop Plex and reinstall the 9.6.0 beta. I just installed it and my WDTV Live picked up Plex as a DLNA server right away.
Found it…thank you. “locate” is a wonderful thing - but now what do I do with this?
What does one need to do with this file to turn on DLNA so that it’s on and discover-able by other devices like WD TV?
Thanks in advance.
please help, i get only the below in my log. i have turned all other services off (inlcuding Sonos) so this should not be the problem.

Any help would be much appreacited from Amsterdam!
I am an idiot - I had installed the wrong release. DLNA is not available in anything but the beta. I read this page http://elan.plexapp.com/2012/03/29/this-aint-your-grandfathers-dlna/ and assumed that that was what I was getting.
I removed the “non-beta” and installed the beta and was immediately able to connect with my WD TV.
Ubuntu 12.04
WD TV latest firmware.
ram1201:
Looks like the DLNA server is crashing? If so, try 0.9.6.2 and post Plex DLNA Server.log file if still a problem.

You shouldn’t have to do anything special with the profiles, as long as your device is supported natively. If not, you’ll need a profile.
mfeingol - Would there be any chance of getting a preference added to allow us to control whether or not an item becomes marked as “watched” when viewed over DLNA?
I currrently use PS3 Media Server, which is a resource hog, but i would rather use Plex as my DLNA server. However the people in my house who use the DLNA devices are usually not me. They are other family members who wish to view my library. But when using Plex DLNA, any time one of them watched something, it marks it in my library as watched.
This is the only thing holding me back from using Plex DLNA and would be a massive thing for me!
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Mark
ps let me know if this should be posted in the Mac Media Server Feature Requests instead!
Yeah, there’s already a way to do that. It’s undocumented, but what the heck.
The preference is called DlnaReportTimeline. Set it to zero and no progress/watched reports will be sent back to PMS.
Wow! That was much better/faster news than i was expecting! Fantastic!!! I can now ditch PS3 Media Server and use Plex. Thanks a lot mfeingol
Some reason when I install the new version it does not give me the DLNA portion. No preferences, no process, nothing. Is DLNA supported on the Mac version of Plex, if it is...then is there another place I can download it from?
any progress getting subtitles support to work?
What’s the server impact of setting DlnaDeviceDiscoveryInterval to a much lower value?
[I’ve got a PS3 that’s very slow to discovr my Linux/Ubuntu plex server.]
Not yet, no. But I do have an internal bug filed to add, where possible, something like this to the DLNA XML:
<res protocolInfo="http-get:*:text/srt:*">http://192.168.178.27:32400/resource/9/SUBTITLE.srt</res>
I presume that's what you're referring to?
More SSDP/UDP broadcasts. Not a lot of impact to the server, but might impact things on your network. Hard to say.
This said, I doubt your issue will be solved via this option. This option causes PMS to search for devices more frequently, while what you need is for the PS3's discovery broadcasts to be seen/responded to by PMS.
Yeah, basicly just something to tell the server to grab any of the pre-set language subs if there available. My TV needs every mkv transcoded anyway so why not throw in a sub while its at it right?
Edit: Answered my own question.
On Linux, these DLNA settings go into the Preferences.xml file:
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Media_Server_Preferences#Linux
@mfeingol Any development on the DLNA front??
could these preferences be used to force directplay for all content on a renderer, regardless of profile and video attributes(library indexing)?
Yardco there is development there that will be out for public soon, it’s only out for plexpass members atm.
Including subtitle support over DLNA
It works already on the PS3 with the current test version.
Thanks for the response tcviper! I have been wanting to get a plex pass subscription but no paypal payment method unfortunately. And dont have a creditcard since it isnt really necessary where I live.
Hope the new features will be released soon so we can update existing dlna profiles!
