Plex Media Server Docker crashing Unraid shares every 24-36 hours

Server Version#: 1.16.4.1469
Player Version#: N/A
Host OS version: Unraid 6.7.0
Docker Version: 18.09.5
Issue has re-occurred across numerous versions of both Plex and Unraid

The title kind of sums it up. Every 24-36 hours I lose access to my Plex media server from all clients because all my unraid shares “disappear” and cannot be accessed from any device (all files, not just Plex related). I have basically isolated the issue to some kind of memory leak or issue with PMS itself. At some point PMS or some scanning process begins to take up RAM and start pegging a CPU core to 100%. Eventually this maxes out the 16GB of RAM on the machine and unraid kills stuff off and the shares disappear. If I shut off the docker/PMS the system will happily run for weeks on end, so it seems clear that the issue is specifically with the Plex Docker. I have no other dockers running. This has been going on for months and I’ve tried updating every piece of software, deleting/reinstalling the docker image etc but the issue persists. I have the debugging logs but I have no idea how to interpret them or which logs are useful since there is just a lot of stuff in there. Any help to identify the problem would be appreciated because its Plex has been effectively unusable to me for the last 6+ months.

I currently run UnRaid 6.7.2 but have ran 6.7.0 and I currently run Plex 1.16.6.1559 under the LinuxServer docker under Docker version 18.09.6.

I have never ran the Plex official docker myself.

Can you try and run the linux server Plex docker and see if you can isolate the issue to the official plex docker?

I know others run the official on UnRaid and haven’t heard of users reporting this issue.

I will look in to that, I’m not super savvy when it comes to linux so I’m not sure what that will entail specifically.

When I said it was specific to the Plex Docker, I just meant that I think I can say it is a plex related problem rather than some underlying issue with Unraid. Considering that I haven’t seen much else regarding similar issues I’m sort of inclined to believe its a problem on my end (configs or some problem files or somethign), I just don’t know what it is. Is there a way to figure out if there is a specific configuration issue with my setup thats causing some process to start chewing up memory/CPU?

Check this post

and I would suggest you post on the UnRaid forum for assistance to have those guys help figure out why your shares disappear.

When your shares go away Plex will die for sure so figuring out why your shares are going away is the key and although I have experience with UnRaid the support folks on their forum could help you isolate it much quicker than I could.

Basically I think UnRaid kills the file system process (shfs) because it runs out of memory, and it runs out of memory because Plex scanner is going wild.

I appreciate the feedback though, I’ll go back to the unraid forums and look at some Plex threads over there. I didn’t get very far a couple months ago posting about the same issue in their general support section and then got too busy to keep on it, but I’ve gained more confidence that the issue is Plex related since that time

I will say all mine point to /mnt/* as well and here are shot of mine for refrence
