So I’m going to be trying to move my plex media server from Pop_OS! to Windows, but that’s a different topic. I try to download Plex Media Server for Windows and for whatever reason it defaults to the 32-bit download. I haven’t found a way to change it so that I get the x64 download. Why can’t I just manually pick my download instead of Plex choosing it for me?
Not sure how/why the downloads page is behaving like it is, but you can get the 64-bit edition by just adding _64 to the end of the filename of the 32-bit version at the link.
I had the same issue as the OP and followed your instructions to d/l the 64bit version. The 64bit version downloaded, but when I tried to install it, I got a message that the program wouldn’t run with my version of Windows. I have successfully run the 64bit version for years on this machine with the same setup/ Any ideas?
That is not possible The 64-bit version was only introduced a month ago. Our Plex players are 64-bit, maybe you are getting these confused.
As previously mentioned, the 64-bit release is still in preview and not available from the downloads page. You can also download it from the preview thread at Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version.
I’m new to plex nd I’m a bit lost. I started with the 32 bit server, then tried the 64 bit server. In both cases, they install, I op They open the site and log in fine. But, no set up wizard. How do I get to the set up wizard, please?
The wizard only loads the first time you run PMS. If you already installed the 32-bit version, you won’t see the wizard again. You don’t need the wizard, you can set everything up using Plex Web like usual. If there is a specific reason you want to use the wizard?
Yes, because when I tell it to open plex, it opens the plex page for watching stuff. No way to name my server that I can find. Nothing to set up libraries that I can find. When I choose your media there, it tells me to get the plex server and takes me to the download page. Please help.
It shouldn’t make a difference.
Are you 100% positive that you downloaded and installed the Plex Server, and not just the “Plex for Windows” [player] app?
OK.
Was Plex server working on that machine in the past?
Do you have several Windows user accounts on that machine?
Can you see the Plex icon in your task tray area?
