I am trying to figure out how to diagnose an issue I seem to have run into. My TV Shows is listing some stuff from another directory, not part of it’s list of directories at all. But unsure what to dump/look at the prove the issue. I have a number of TV Libraries and each has quite a few directories. We have a H:\Media which stores tv stuff you ned to see one by one and L:\MediaNBU (not backed up) which is for stuff you can just watch one episode and not worry (ie how did they make that etc). And within there we have places that plex records too, we have stuff that downloads (via youtube_dl) and stuff grabbed by Playon . So all told each library could have 10-12 directories, and I SWEAR it’s screwing some of them up internally. but how can I dump that sort of information out to look at it??
If you want your TV Shows to work - do this:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/naming-and-organizing-tv-shows/
Verbatim.
Only add the TV Show Library Folder to the Add Folder area for the library. Do not add individual TV Show Folders.
Show us your files and structures and we’ll show you how to fix it.
Oh no it’s not that silly. I really need to getPlex to somehwo tell me/query it’s DB to say what each library is setup for. Tautulli doesn’t help, but I am checking out a few other tools I have installed.
H:\Media\TVNew
H:\Media\TVBackup
H:\Media\TVBackupHulu
H:\Media\TVBackupUsa
H:\Media\TVBackupDLCa
H:\Media\TVBAckup\DLusa
L:\MediaNBU… similar entries to above
And these are spread across some pretty serious raid-6 HD arrays one for backed up and one for not-backed up basically.
And the sad thing is most of this is needed due to the flakey nature of the Plex EPG these days, 1/2 the time it’s only recording 1/2 my shows - but the DLCa/DLUsa are always bang on. After that the backup is Hulu and Usa (direct channel Playon captures). So we don’t miss anything, but quality goes down as it goes form OTA to download to Playon etc.
Only thing I can say is that I don’t see how that directory structure is going to work.
In what way - it works fine, we have approx 10 folders, but in each is many many different shows. It’s working well except for when I extended some of our stuff so now we have a few libraries that are specific to who watches the shows. based on our initials. That way the stuff I watch with my wife is in one list, and one list has stuff my wife/daughter watch etc.
So adding those folders to other libraries I swear has internally criss crossed things. But I have no way to validate, since the UI seems to show the right thing for ‘TV Shows’ - the UI list is correct, but it’s got a few shows from ‘H:\MSETV’ which is the Mike/Sue/Eric list etc.
what exactly is wrong with the way I set things up??
Well I think I figured out what happened here.
I had incorrectly added a directory to one of my libraries. It was scanned pretty quickly. But then I removed it - but that doesnt’ remove anything it already found I guess. So it stayed until I manually moved the media away from it’s location, scanned, purged data, and then moved it back. Now the libraries seem to make more sense.
I love WebTools plugin - super for finding alot of stuff, and heck you can easily tweak it to view things like directory paths etc!!
