Is there a way to import import m3u and m3u8 Playlists to Plex Media Server?

Back in May 2018 Elan Feingold, the CTO and Co-Founder of Plex, said in the thread below that they had this functionality working but hadn’t implemented the UI. I haven’t been able to find out anything further. Maybe if everybody in this thread jumps up and down and makes lots of noise they will give us access.

As far as I can tell, PLEX ignores playlists. I have several audiobooks as mp3, in folders, and used a playlist creator but have no playlists showing up on PLEX. Serviio sees lists but messes up the sequence. Anyone know of a media system that runs on Roku with a Windows server that sees playlists?

I also would like to have m3u playlists added to my music selection. How hard is it to do this? I’ve been waiting for years and it just gets ignored. Please can you add this functionality?

Any followup on this? There seems to be no support, as they just direct us to the forums, but then no one bothers answering these questions.

Plex and Sonos will be useless to me if I can’t import m3u playlists like I did with my Squeezecenter.

To echo any follow up??? I have well over a thousand songs curated over the years in my playlist in Music Bee, Windows Media Player, or Media Monkey…they all work, can easily import but not with Plex. Also why is it that these programs can read my ratings but Plex can’t?? Any auto play list of 3+ stars or greater would help me immensely but it doesn’t read the rating I already set. Really would like a import and more functionality added to music please.

I’ve been searching online and in forums for a solution to this for many years as I’m using foobar2000 as my main music player and would like to transfer those playlists.

I finally found a solution a couple of weeks ago, a service called “Soundiiz”.

It let’s you transfer playlists between many different platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Music to name a few, but most importantly it let’s you transfer to PLEX. Not without hick ups though, at least in my experience.

At first I was not able to transfer any of my playlists from foobar, even when I saved them in m3u or m3u8 and it was driving me nuts. I finally reached out to Soundiiz support and I got a reply within hours from the co-founder. He asked me to send him one of my playlist so he could troubleshoot it.

This is the reply I got: “I finally found the issue. It’s your playlist format, it’s not containing any metadatas, only path to your files. Can you export as EXT M3U instead?”

The only solution that I’ve found so far was to download winamp and import the m3u8 playlist and then create a new playlist in winamp and save it. Once I had done that I was able to upload it to PLEX via Soundiiz with success.

It did get a few songs wrong, so I had to manually correct them but it beats recreating a full playlist.

Hope this will help!

I’m also trying to migrate from Logitech Squeezebox to Plex with a large collection of music. One of the things missing is the successful automated import of M3U files (playlists) found in a Library.

Off topic: Besides that I’m still struggling with the performance of Plex. I did run the optimization so it’s now better but still not as fast as I was hoping.
