Plex Media server just closes

Server Version#:1.28.0.5973
Player Version#:4.76.1

Help ! I have for two days trying to get Plex media server to stop closeing everytime I try to stream something and it just fails and closes not crash but closes. I was working with the previous version 1.27.2.5929 and rolled back to 1.26.2.5797 and nothing worked no one is talking about this, what is going on I have never and I meant never have had an issue with Plex for years until now.

Now with the latest version it just closes after a few seconds of opening.

Yes I have rebooted several time updated my system as well if needed. this is unusual as it seems now unstable.

Can someone help me on this. Windows 10 version 21H1 build 19043.1826

Sounds like there’s a specific issue with your setup.
Did you already take a look at your server logs to see if there’s any hints what might be causing your PMS to stop/crash?

THere is nothing wrong with the system It is as it alwas has been it is for all purposes headless and I can’t get to them as the server quits. it shuts off and then disapears from the task bar.

You can also access the server logs in your file system (see link above).

Okay now what am I looking for?

That’s only the message about your server reporting the crash – not the crash itself.

Again what am I looking for?

Sorry, there’s no walkthrough / guide on how to read log files.
You can generally look for messages with an ERROR - or CRITICAL - prefix to identify what was going on before the server crashed.

I’ll presume this is the issue?

Jul 18, 2022 19:01:16.646 [22752] ERROR - Unable to lock named mutex 9334581e-7251-4ef7-a8ec-5bfe8e89ff68: 0x80

And if it is what can I do to fix it?

Sorry – I cannot make sense of a single line of log.

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-07-18_18-09-03.zip (569.4 KB)

Apologies, they are verbose I can’t change it.

If you import this .reg file, you can.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server]
"logDebug"=dword:00000001
"LogVerbose"=dword:00000000

A restart is required after the import.

I was able to get in the server and change it to non verbose. Butbit is still shutting down. And the logs still say the samething for the error. Everytime.

Plex DLNA Server.1.log (12.3 KB)
Can anyone see what is going on here?

I did a search for ERROR - Unable to lock named mutex 9334581e-7251-4ef7-a8ec-5bfe8e89ff68: 0x80 on the forums and cam across this Plex server keeps crashing - #5 by pshanew

turning off hardware accelerated transcoding my plex looks to have stopped crashing.

Will keep monitoring for futher issues.

i have this same issue since last server update… tried reintall,pc restart etc with no joy… whys it keep closing?

This has done the trick of the PMS just closing. Turning off hardware acceleration transcoding has kept PMS stable.

Try turning off hardware acceleration transcoding.
