Plex server keeps crashing

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2902
Player Version#: N/A
Windows version: Windows 10 Pro

Hi,
During the last few days my plex started crashing constantly - it runs for perhaps 5 min at a time now :frowning:
It even crashes if there are no clients connected…
Windows logs does not show anything useful, and when checking plex logs, i’m noget getting any wiser…
with errors like:
Jun 06, 2020 20:14:24.272 [10492] ERROR - Unable to lock named mutex 9334581e-7251-4ef7-a8ec-5bfe8e89ff68: 0x80
Jun 06, 2020 20:14:24.272 [10492] DEBUG - Stopping UPNP server

I hope that there is someone that can help as I have tried a repair/reinstall

Check your settings in Server Settings -> Network. Make sure you’re using the correct syntax. If you’re listing more than one network, do not add a space between them.

Not sure if that is causing the crash, but it should be corrected.

Hi FordGuy61

I only have one network in “Lan networks”, but i will try and leave it blank and see if it helps.

Still crashes, new logs if needed

It appears to be an issue with hardware accelerated transcoding. This is some of the last output in your logs before the crash:

Jun 06, 2020 20:46:55.266 [11024] DEBUG - Codecs: testing h264_qsv (encoder)
Jun 06, 2020 20:46:55.266 [11024] DEBUG - Codecs: hardware transcoding: testing API qsv

It’s testing Intel Quick Sync Video to see if it’s available. Chances are, if you see this immediately before a crash, that’s the cause. To see if this is the case here, try disabling hardware accelerated transcoding. Uncheck:
Settings -> Transcoder -> Use hardware accelerated transcoding when available

If the server stops crashing, check your Intel video drivers. There are certain versions which are known to cause issues. This post from @sa2000 has a summary:

Hi philipsw

After turning off hardware accelerated transcoding my plex looks to have stopped crashing
I will keep monitoring the system if it is not the root cause.
Intel drivers have also been updated just in case.

Thanks for the help and I will confirm is the server runs as expected for the next day or so.
