My ‘Plex Media Server\Media’ folder seems to be growing out of control. I do have a large library, but the amount of data in ‘Plex Media Server\Media’ has been growing disproportionately to the number of videos I have been adding. It almost appears that when I do a ‘refresh meta data’, that it creates new meta data for a movie/TV Series without deleting the old. I don’t have anything that proves that, I’ve just noticed that after I do a ‘refresh meta data’ on a TV series, that it seems to bump the size of the ‘Media’ folder, and I really don’t think it should be noticeable.
I currently have 1.4 million folders in ‘Plex Media Server’ with 1.6 million files. My total media is about 60,000 items.
So you have an average of 10 MB per library item in Plex’ data folder (focusing only on media + metadata which are the big chunks).
That doesn’t sound excessive to me… assuming a reasonably huge part of those 60k files is videos. Hardly a few hundred KB to 1 MB per poster / backdrop.
To look at it a different way.
Plex is storing approximately 20 files for every 1 video item I have (on an average)
I have about 50,000 TV episodes, and 11,000 movies
Assuming 1 backdrop and 1 poster for every episode, with a few optional posters/backdrop, it still seems like an excessive number.
I rarely see more than 2 or 3 optional posters, a few times as much as 10.
I realize a chunk of those are going to be actor/actress.
It still seems to be 3 to 4 times what I would expect.
