Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Plex media server and moving its location to an external hard drive? I’ve spent the past few days troubleshooting the spinning loop issue and it saying it’s moving and it will take several minutes. I finally hit the bullet and decided to delete my server and start again and I’m not super worried about restoring anything. But when I’ve erased it, set it up again and it was working for about 5 minutes but I’ve just gone to the Plex media server options area and gone to move it again to an external drive and it’s gone back into a loop again. The movie and tv shows are offline and it’s now greyed out / hidden the Plex media server area in the settings.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I know running it off the shield obviously isn’t the best way to do it so I’ve been told a few times but it’s how I’d like to set it up for now as I’m not a big Plex user but how it’s been working on the past has worked absolutely fine for me.
I’ve copied and pasted the original message I posted on reddit and a few other forums to give some more context as to why I even tried to move the media server files to my HD instead of storing it on the internal shield storage.
Moving server data storage location on NVIDIA SHIELD (April 2022)

Just need a bit of a point in the right direction with an issue I’m having…
So I run a plex server on my Nvidia shield and I tried to move the Server Data Directory from the nvidia storage to an external hard drive so I could access it on my computer to delete the codec folder (as this whole issue started with an episode having EAC3 audio codec instead of EAC) hopefully I’ve used the correct naming for the codecs but I can’t access my server anymore to check.
I left it on all day for more than 20 hours moving from the Nvidia > to external hard drive and when i got home and checked it was still prompting “this could take several minutes”
Just wondering what the next steps that I can take before setting up my plex server again from scratch.
I can’t currently see the “plex media server” settings as it’s doing the good old greyed out / invisible display, I’ve closed the app, rebooted the nvidia shield 3-4 times and still not visible.
Just wondering if someone has had some experience and can point me in the right direction with some troubleshooting steps to move forward.
