I'm having trouble moving Plex to an external hard drive

Hello everyone,

I have a problem that seems a bit strange. I had my server running on a mini PC, but it started having memory issues, so I tried to move everything to an external hard drive. The mini PC only had 320 GB, so the server began to use up space and eventually ran out, while the external hard drive is 1 TB. I searched in %LOCALAPPDATA% and found Plex Media Server there. I made a copy and moved it to the external drive—it was taking up about 250 GB.

Once everything was sorted out, I configured the PC to look for the Plex Media Server and open the one on the external hard drive at startup. Then I updated it, and everything seemed fine. However, when I open the library (which still looked just as before) and select any movie, it says “NOT AVAILABLE.” I tried several more, and the same issue occurred; they were not available. I have tried looking through the logs for any information on how it was linking the files, but I haven’t found anything—probably because I don’t really know what to search for; I was only looking at the paths.

Another problem that has come up is that once the server is running, it disconnects every little while, and this happens throughout the day. I have no idea what the error is. I really want to keep my library as it took me a long time to have it set up perfectly, with all the covers and everything prepared properly, and there are many movies and series.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you all and best regards.

Here is how it should be done: [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

This is not about the actual media files, btw. Only about the data that are collected and generated about your media files.
Leave your media files where they are, for now.
