Hi.
I have a window 10 puter.
When I click on the Plex Media Server (PMS) the screen flashes like I opened a program then nothing shows or comes on the screen. I should have access to the options (I assume) to add a category in the future among other things. I ran into this problem when I added media that doesn’t show up in PMP. I went to update my library and…nothing.
A work around for this is making Plex my default player and clicking on the Windows file. I still need access to PMS.
Help!
Ps
I tried reinstalling already. may do it again.
I tried down loading and reinstalling again. No luck. I tried firewall and ant-virus again. No luck either,
something must be stopping it from opening.
I tried right clicking/ run as admin, I got all excited because it triggers a notification! No good.
I’m going to bed.
Not sure I understand. Are saying the web app is working, but the dashboard (home page) isn’t showing up properly?
Can you post a screenshot of the dash board using the local web app?
Scroll down to local web app in Opening Plex Web App support article.
Yes, you pretty much got it right. The Plex server must be working because I have no problems watching my movies, listening to music etc. or just getting to my media files from Plex media player.
Now, this is fine for any media file that I have in there already when I first set up PMS and PMP.
An example of a problem I have now:
I will try to open the Plex server. I click on the Icon for PMS in the start menu and it does not start a UI (no dashboard) to add a category of media files or add TV stations etc…
What I wanted to do is update my movie files. I added a new movie (.mkv) that will not show up in PMP.
To get around this and use PMP is right click the file and use the “open with” option.
I have the ability to send you a screen shot but it would be of my desk top seeing how there is no UI of PMS at all…
One thing I didn’t do was delete the registry file when I uninstalled PMS. I’m going to try that now.
BTW, thanks for responding.
Once started Plex runs as a background process. You open the web app through your browser. Several ways to do this. Via the system tray - there should be a Plex icon there. Right click on the icon and choose “Open Plex”. Also you can start a browser and access directly.
http://localhost:32400/web
or
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
or
http://[Local Plex Media Server IP Address]:32400/web
I saved as bookmark and just start my browser and click on the applicable bookmark.
Okay, this is a little embarrassing. First I read your link “opening plex web app” I opened PMS via the system tray this time instead of the start menu . A web page opened and there it is. PMS! To my own defense this system tray icon is hidden add some idiot like me (lol) who thinks he knows and viola!
I had a feeling I was missing something real obvious.
Thanks for your help,
That’s okay, you are not the first or probably the last…
