Can't Plex media server app

New user here!

I am trying to set up my plex media server but everytime I try to open the app on my desktop nothing happens. Not even a pop-up and then something that closes.
I tried reinstalling and restarting my pc but no luck.
tried searching for the answer online but that made me non the wiser.

Can anyone help me out here?
thanks!

Do you see the Plex Media Server icon in the system tray of the machine where you installed and run the app?
If it’s running you can either use the Open Plex… option from the system tray item’s context menu… or simply browse to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web to start setting up the server…

yes i do.
If there is nothing else needed and i can just use the webapp then there is no problem.
Mistake on my part. I thought an app should’ve opened.

Thank you!

I have installed the Plex Media Server and Task Manager confirms it is running. When I open the Plex app or web Plex, I can’t access my libraries and when I try and add my media the app just tells me to ā€˜get Plex Media Server’. I can’t see anywhere in the App to set up or configure the media server (and there were no options to do so during installation). I’m running Windows 11. I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled everything to do with Plex from scratch. I have removed everything Plex from C:\Program Files and AppData\Local before doing so.

Have you been following the instructions above, accessing your server ā€œlocallyā€ – e.g. opening http://127.0.0.1:32400/web from a browser on the same device?

Yes and it tells me to ā€˜get Plex Media Server’ even though its installed and running

Did you previously run a version of PMS on the same machine, possibly linked to a different Plex account,

Yes I have run Plex successfuly before on this machine. When it stopped working (not sure if this coincided with when I went from Win 10 to Win 11) I did a complete un-/re-install and I am using the same Plex account as before. All of PlexOnlineHome, PlexOnlineMail, PlexOnlineToken, and PlexOnlineUsername have been deleted from the registry.

Still no joy with this. Is anyone else able to help?

After you did your full uninstall/reinstall… are you connecting to your server using its local ip address from within the same subnet?

I don’t know what I did differently, but I did another complete un/reinstall and now it’s working OK.

Thanks!

Hi there, I tried this suggested fix and it totally worked. My problem is that each time I start my computer up again I have to do the trick again for the Plex Media Server to work. It gets tiring after a while. I’m not sure why the registry files keep playing up and need certain entries removed each time I start my computer up. Any help would be much appreciated.
