Plex Media Server Nonfunctional After Migrating Server Folder on old Windows machine

Server Version#: DSM 7.2.2-72806
Player Version#: ???

I tried migrating the old files from the Plex Media Server on my old Windows 7 machine to the one on my Synology NAS by deleting the files on the NAS and moving the old files to the new destination. Unfortunately, Plex will not recognize the server now.

On top of that, when I try to connect to the link that the Synology settings provide me, it keeps telling me that it can’t connect to that link. I’m doing this from a computer that’s connected to the network via LAN, same as my NAS.

I’m trying to attach the logs zip file to give more information, but the form keeps saying it’s too big.

How did you perform the migration?

Did you use this procedure ?

I tried re-installing Plex with the method you mentioned. The installation took only a few seconds for some reason. When I added my Movies library to it, the installation still doesn’t use the metadata I previously applied to it. I made sure the old Plex Media Server files were in this directory structure:

Plex/
Library/
Application Support/
Plex Media Server

I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing.

You missed an extremely important part of the procedure

  1. Did you give “PlexMediaServer” FULL CONTROL of the Plex shared folder
    – AND “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files” ?

  2. Did you previously “Uninstall & Erase” the prior DSM 7 installation ?
(It will not migrate / import on top of an existing valid installation)

Assuming you have everything in the Plex shared folder,

  1. Uninstall and Erase (the 3rd package center menu option) the installed DSM package
  2. Follow these instructions (same as given previously with more details)

That seems to have done the trick! Thank you!
