Plex Media Server on my PC or my WDTV?

Hi All,

I have Plex media Server on my Windows 10 PC and my media on my WDTV Live Hub.
Obviously I have to have my PC switched on and Plex Media Server running, how do I install PMS on my WDTV so I don’t have to do this?

And if I switch my WDTV off how do I start the media server again?

It’s all working fine as it is would be great not to have to turn my PC on and open PMS.

Thanks in advance.

Harvey

I should say I use my APPLE TV as a client to access the WDTV content.

There’s upsides and downsides to working with a setup this way. The WDTV is likely underpowered (NAS based processors typically are) compared to your Win 10 PC, and will likely be able to handle less things thrown at it. It is possible that you might notice a performance decrease.

On the converse side, you might gain the benefit of an always on PMS as long as the WDTV is up and running.

If you’re not taxing your system too much, and only running one stream at a time internally, you might see more benefits than detractions. It’s free to try if you already have the hardware. Just set up a second server and see how it rolls.
