PLEX MEDIA SERVER ON WIINDOWS 11, no 4k on tv?

Hi. I am using PLEX MEDIA SERVER on WINDOWS 11 DC DESK TOP AND NVIDIA SHIELD. I can play direct from WIND11 PC using SHIELD and all works great on LG G2 TV WITH DOLBY VISION and DTSx Audio working great. However, if I use the LG G2 TV PLEX app, no DOLBY VISION but do get HDR10, and no DTSx, get AAC via transcode instead.

I do not have plex pass for windows 11, is this the problem? Thanks

The LG G2 does not support DTS or TrueHD audio. When you use the Plex LG app, both formats will be transcoded.

Regarding Dolby Vision, I believe LG TVs want DV video in a MP4 container. If you are using a MKV container Plex may choose the HDR10 version of the video instead.

Hi. Thanks for the response and the other links are useful seeing others reporting the same issues.

I have a SHIELD PRO 2019 which seems capable of doing anything I throw at it. I have an issue with my SHIELD as ETHERNET port is broken and loose. So I am now thinking given the age and potential ending of support is there an alternative to the SHIELD PRO that does everything that the SHIELD PRO will do in terms of VIDEO AUDIO containers files formats etc? For example, I have been looking at NAS drives which support PLEX but the question is which one is equivalent to SHIELD PRO 2019? Or Dune/UGOOS etc?

If there is nothing else I may just purchase another SHIELD?

Any thoughts on above?

Many thanks, your help is appreciated.

Regards.

You could use Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet on the Shield.

If you do not have a strong Wi-Fi signal in that location, you could install an access point and use the Ethernet cable to connect it to the rest of your network. A mesh Wi-Fi network might also be an alternative.

An Amazon FireStick 4K Max Gen2 will passthrough TrueHD + Atmos just like the Shield. However, for DTS formats is passes only the DTS core. Any -HD or :X info is discarded.

I’m not familiar with the Dune or Ugoos devices. Others have mentioned side loading Kodi and using the Plex for Kodi plug-in.

Or you could always acquire another Shield Pro.

Thanks for the advice. Ref your previous response about DV being in an MP 4 container. I have converted to MP4 container via various methods. Whist the video will play in HDR I cannot seem to be able to get DV to display, it appears as though the DV “information” does not get included during the course of the conversion.

I don’t suppose you happen to know how to convert the MKV version into the MP4 container along with Dolby Vision?

The MKV version contains what is the DV information (shown below) but so far what ever other format I use (including MP4), this information will not be copied across:

Unfortunately, I do not. I’ve tried using ffmpeg, but without success (the tracks copy, but my LG still plays HDR, not DV).

Hopefully someone else can assist.
