I have tried various Dolby Vision MKV rips and the TV only goes into HDR not DV, I have tried this with the built in player and the Shield version, both the same. I’m guessing this is a Plex bug ?
Well… Maybe, maybe not… It seems to be spotty as to which profiles are supported, but I only have experience with my 2019 Shield Pro and my Sony XH95.
Using the test files from makemkv, you should be able to determine what your LG TV supports, although there may be a few posts in that long topic from users who have already tested on an LG TV.
I’d suggest for the sake of 20 / 30 minutes work, download them and see what works and what doesn’t.
Yeah I will download but I don’t want to go through films I have, its like if they work they work.
As long term, I assume it will be sorted by Plex at some point, if that’s the case I’m happy to wait, they play in HDR with Atmos Audio. Just really finding out if this is something Plex are working on.
Again, not sure about the LG, however the Shield absolutely should work on some of them.
If you look at my post in the big thread, where I give my test results, I highlight a number of settings that are set on all my kit… The TV, the Shield and my AVR…
I’d suggest that there are going to be a number of settings you are going to need to check on both the Shield, and your LG TV… On the LG, check the settings for the HDMI ports and see if there is the ability to set them to something like “Enhanced”.
Also do a general google search on enabling Dolby Vision for your LG TV.
I have read that and yes I agree it’s a mess, what I am trying to do is find out if it’s just something Plex will fix in time. As I say, apps like Netflix and Apple TV work fine with DV, therefore the connections/settings of the Shield must be ok.
As long as someone here says yes it’s a Plex issue and yes it will be fixed in the future then that’s fine for me.
