Plex media server opdate, something went wrong

Server Version#: Version 1.27.1.5891
Player Version#:
After last update the server got stuck during restart of the plex server.
Stoped the app, retried. It then did start but all sections gave the error:
" Something went wrong
There was an error loading your home screen. Please try again in a few minutes."
I did a reboot of my mac and tried again. but no luck.
Downloaded fresh server from the site, copied the old one and removed it from the application folder. Inserted the fresh server.
Same Error.
I suspect the DB is locked maybe? How do I recover from this? I cant find a way to restore a backup that I assume the update made before installing.
Any tips on how to tackle this?

console log a million of these shows:
un 15, 2022 12:21:42.150 [0x70000823e000] ERROR - Unknown metadata type: folder
Jun 15, 2022 12:21:42.215 [0x70000823e000] ERROR - Got exception from request handler: std::bad_cast

Can you post your server logs?

Up !
I get the same error since this morning …

@spawn666 sqlite3_statement_backend::loadOne: database disk image is malformed see Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support

@Maleuleu please post your server logs

Same thing happened to me. Downloaded clean installer from plex.tv. Uninstalled PLEX from the PC. Installed the clean version of Plex. Waited to rebuild the indexes, all good to go.

I also have Plex Media Server running on a Mac that’s fully updated but it’s not visible to Plex clients either Apple TV or iPhone. I’ve restarted the Mac, logged out of Plex and back in, I deleted and replaced the Plex Media Server app with a new downloaded version but nothing works.

The Mac is on the network and works for everything else except for Plex. It seems like something went wrong with the last update. Any ideas?

Found the document and tried it. The DB created in my root is zero kb the recovery.out is also just a couple of KB in size.

Same thing happened to me.

Seeing that im not the only one I think the plex team messed up the update in some way.
I started rebuilding my Db from scratch. :pensive: :worried:

Hello,

I have the same problem and it’s very annoying because i have à lot of elements in my libraries.

Is it possible to repair the database?
Here are my logs :
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-06-15_19-04-24.zip (696.1 KB)

I specify that I tried to follow several tutorials including this one, but it does not work.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

All this being said, the server seems to quit more frequently these days.

Yes I totally agree

This is a nightmare. It will take me at least a week to retrieve all the meta data. My library is huge :tired_face: Wish plex could make something to help the database with situations like this.

I tried restoring my database from a backup and it’s not working.

It seems like there is an issue with the latest release. I’m going to try to roll back and see if that fixes things.

I’m on version 1.27.0.5897

Update - I’m on Unraid with a docker image and the rollback didn’t work. I think my container auto-updates to 1.27.0.5897

Same thing here. I spent hours on trying to fix it last night, even went back to a previous backup I stored on a drive and that’s not working either. WTF is going on?

Honestly though, I feel better knowing it’s not just me. Maybe that means there is hope if they release a fixed installer? If I have to start from scratch after almost a decade of working on this thing…that would be devastating, to say the least.

well for me the damage is already done. But a DB restore application would be nice for future failed updaters maybe.

Ok, just want to give a quick update. I was able to get things working again, although I lost 3 days, but so what, I’ll take it!

Here’s what I did. (This is all on a Mac running Monterey btw.)

I downgraded to the previous version with the list I found here: GitHub - axlecrusher/plex_download_urls: Archive of Plex mediaserver download URLs

I then basically followed the instructions from this page: Restore a Database Backed Up via 'Scheduled Tasks' | Plex Support

The one difference being, before I restarted I also replaced the com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist from my /Library/Preferences folder with an old one I had from a previous backup. (I always back up that file when doing full PMS folder backups).

Then I restarted and held my breath. It actually took a LONG time. It was on “Starting Plex…” so long I thought it was stuck, but I just left it running and walked away for a bit and when I came back it worked! Not sure if this will work for anybody else, but try downgrading to a previous version, and also don’t forget to replace your plist file. Good luck!

Ok, I got mine working again. Since I am using docker I followed this reddit post to manually repair the database https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/p5fk1b/how_do_i_repair_my_database_when_running_pms_in_a/

In addition I had to chmod the new database file as well so Plex could open it.

I should point out now that a very good idea is to have a backup program like Acronis (which is what I use on my PC) that makes a regular complete backup of your computer. MULTIPLE times, the machine has just gone south. At least once requiring a replaced C: Drive. No problem. Boot off the created USB, recover the entire PC and in the time it takes to restore the drive, it is all back to where it was. Never have to worry about database backups or anything like that. Just back up the entire computer.
