PMS UPDATE - Yet Again

Server Version#:7571
Player Version#: Version 4.108.0
Win Pro 10

As you can tell My Ver is Way old, Cant get past anything newer than that, Ive tried everything even Otto’s DBrepair, tried to ask him for help for weeks but got the cold shoulder, I’m not really looking to reinstall at this point yet being that I’m close to a Petabyte of data and it’ll take a month to reload all that back up, (probably due to something being corrupted most likely) so someone for the love of what’s left of my brain cells help me out, (logs upon request). TIA

That is always the first place to start, and can you provide the full server version?

Version 1.32.7.7571

When you update what happens? (not seeing any red flags in the logs)

I get the update fail error popup, I can never do the update via the plex update, I always have to DL it and do it that way, It’ll never update via the web, once I do it that way, after it finishes it’ll have the missing library BS, So it never builds the library database. And this is after I ran the DBrepair

When you do a manual update are you uninstalling the old version or just installing the update?

it uninstalls first, then does a fresh install, every time, then I usually have to either wait till the library updater finishes or that will just error out then if the library updater works I’ll open up Plex after it’s done and I’ll get that “something went wrong” error on the home page on plex and I’ll have to revert back to Ver 7571 I’ve tried all the other versions, I get the same error “something went wrong” (its just the Library issue) FYI that seems to be the problem

How big are your database files? Im tempted to throw them into a test PC and try running an update to see if that is your database at fault

“something went wrong” is a generic error.

When you do an update go to localhost 32400 and I bet it will say it’s doing database migrations. If you have a petabyte of data the db migrations is probably going to take a whole day, maybe more.

You can also monitor the active main plex log file when you’re doing the update to see its progress. You can also check the main database folders, and see if the database file’s modification time changes because that’s your indication that the update is still ongoing.

I Waited 5 Days before I decided to stop, it really wasn’t an option to stop, it wasn’t doing anything. The 1st time and 8 days the last time. This current update just plan up and error-ed out and didn’t even finish, It wouldn’t even complete, As soon as the Update Library data Box part began it just error’s, I’d have to start it over again to see what the message says.

damn dude, I wouldn’t want to be in your situation.

Do you have a pretty good system? Coz I have a huge library as well but your situation sounds horrifically bad… 8 days for an update, geez.

Yes I do, Intel(R) Core™ i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.19 GHz 128GB, it’s the 900 TB (25 Drives/ 2-8-Proboxes they are a Pain) of data is why it takes a long time, I’ve taken off virus protection vpn’s any add blockers, anything that would potentially stop PMS from working or the updates from installing, here’s the kick in the pants though, I also run Emby as a back up only when Plex isn’t running, on a back up drive. PnP drive, completely separate from my system and it runs smoothly, which annoys the crap outta me. Because Plex is my Go to Platform, This is why I dread a reinstall! If I had 4 grand laying around I’d run a raid system but it just never happened, I went the Frankenstein route.

Depending on your library size, database file sizes, and CPU/RAM 8 days is not unheard of, I think the record I saw was 3 weeks.

How large are the database files? I have a similar setup with a JBOD configuration with a fair number of drives.

Do you have your plex data files in an nvme or just part of the array?

They are all In Mediasonic Proboxes 8s and 4s via hubs and usb connections

Just curious, do you also have your Plex data files inside the JBOD? :fearful:

Indeed I do, Well just the back up, with this much data, the NFO file is over 500GB of just RAW data and I really didn’t want all that crap on my C:
On a Plus note TGX is back !!!

Sorta, they live on the main hard drive in question, but everything is backed up. your plex database shouldnt be anywhere near 500GB. My databases are 2.2 and 6.7GB respectively

@Beefsnack

Are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Plex Media Server? Look at the top line of Plex Media Server.log. build: windows-x86_64 = 64-bit, build: windows-x86 = 32 bit.

Example: Sep 05, 2024 02:14:27.772 [16248] INFO - Plex Media Server v1.41.0.8911-1bd569c5f - Microsoft PC x64-x64 - build: windows-x86_64 windows - GMT -05:00

Is the Plex Data Folder located on the C:\ drive (default), one of the external drives, or somewhere else?

If you moved it from the default location, did you follow this procedure, including making the registry changes? [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

What is the size of the two database files, com.plexapp.plugins.library.db and com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db?

You can monitor Plex Media Server activity using the Windows PowerShell get-content command. If you’re familiar with Linux, it is similar to tail -f.

gc ".\Plex Media Server.log" -Wait

This can be useful when Plex is performing a database migration. The messages are probably too fast to monitor progress (% complete), but you can at least see if there is any type of activity.

yes it’s in C: and I run 64 and the NFO and Backups are directed to a Different Dir.
I’m waiting on my new script for glasses should be any day now, I’ll have to wait unless you want my logs, not really in the mood to sit with a magnifying glass at my monitor
