Plex Media Server PMS keeps crashing for no reason

I’ve been using PLEX for more than a year and in the last few months that I’ve increased the number of users my PMS has been crashing continuously.

Initially I thought it was video card saturation, I put in an NVIDIA P2200 to test, it kept crashing. Two weeks ago I started using the HWiNFO64 program to monitor and verified that at the exact moment of crashing there wasn’t saturation with the video card.

The truth is I tried everything and I can’t find the real cause.

Is it possible that the crashes are due to conflict with some content and therefore with the transcoding? I’ve tried so many things that I don’t know what to think anymore

Pleaaaaaaaaase help me… I’m going crazy

I don’t know if this will help, but in all cases a com.plexapp.system.log file was created at the approximate time of the crash.

I cant really be of any help with Windows. I’m a Linux engineer.

What I see of your logs implies you’re using the transcoder temporary storage on another drive ?

If trhat’s over the network or you don’t have access… you’ll get these errors.

First of all, thank you very much for your answer, since there are already several posts that I have placed and no one from PLEX had responded to me.

Indeed, for transcoding I have a solid-state hard drive, exclusively for storing the transcoder’s temporary files.

Just a couple of hours ago PMS crashed again twice:
March 29 at 9:23 pm and 9:40 pm

During the day crashed other times but I couldn’t detect the exact moment.

I understand that you are an expert Linux Engineer, but then who can I contact to help me with this problem?

I see that you installed the Plex program files not to drive C:
F:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Transcoder.exe
This folder is a mere 170 MB large and doesn’t store any of the Plex data. I urge you to uninstall Plex server from drive F: and install it back onto drive C:

(Doing so will not result in the loss of your plex data – unless you are using 3rd-party software like “Uninstaller” or “Registry Cleaners”. Stay away from these as far as you can. They do more damage than good.)

I installed PLEX on a separate disk from the one that contains the Operating System because I was recommended to deposit Metadata on a separate disk…

At the time I installed PLEX on the same disk as the Metadata because it seemed convenient to leave everything separate from the OS, but I see that it was not a good decision.

Can I install PMS in drive C: and leave the Metadata on a separate disk?

Currently the Metadata is about 110 GB and I have it on a 480 GB AM2 disk.

Taking into account ChuckPa’s observation I changed the transcoder path, I had it on a separate SSD disk and now I have directed it to a virtual disk on RAM. Is this any use?

ChuckPa told me I’m not getting file locking which is needed for the transcoder. How can I get that?

I really appreciate your help because it’s something that I haven’t been able to solve and I have been with the same problem for a couple of months.

It seems that changing the path of the temporary folder for the transcoder didn’t help, because after having directed it to RAM it continued to crash. Just a few minutes ago it crashed again, at approximately 8:15 a.m.

Yes. According to your log, your metadata are already in F:\Metadata\
So you appear to have already made the necessary changes to the Windows registry.

Hi … I formatted the computer, installed PLEX on drive C, and stored the Metadata on a separate disk.

I couldn’t detect the exact moment but it was around 5:46 pm.

Again … crashed 2 times in a row. As I’ve told you, this is the same situation and it repeats itself over and over again.

I attach the most recent logs where the crashes occurred around 9:57 pm and 10:35 pm (approximately).

I hope that with the logs that I’ve been attaching throughout the post, some common element can be identified that allows us to establish the real cause of the problem.

Please download and install the latest Server beta version 1.22.2.4276 as it might have a fix: Plex Media Server - #416 by emilybersin

Amazing … during these days since I installed version 1.22.2.4276 PMS hasn’t been crashed again.

If a new update comes out, can I install it without problems?, or should I keep this one that is working well…

It is up to you. On most server platforms, you can downgrade the server version if you find that something is broken.

Hello me again

With pleasure I must say that since the update the PMS hasn’t crashed again, however now the remote access is continuously disabled.

Every time it’s disabled I have to log in and activate it again … this happens often

Can you help me in this same post or should I create a new one for this problem?
