Plex Server Crashing

Hi,

Hoping for some help here, although from scrolling through I can see a few others have experienced this issue (although no solution found as yet).

I’ve experienced plex server crashing out seemingly at random, with me having to restart it to get it running. It was happening every few days back in November/December then stopped for the past month.

It came back last night with a vengeance, whilst someone was trying to stream remotely. probably about 3-4 attempts (play, crash, restart) before we gave up. I’ve scanned the logs but I’m no expert, hoping you guys might be able to help, but it won’t let me upload so i’ve pasted in some lines from the latest plex media server log, and crash log below.

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876

I’m having the same issue. Will wait to see a response. I pulled the log .zip file but which file in there is most pertinent?

Just noticed that my server directory with metadata etc is 55gb.

Same problem. It’s been happening more often lately. Used to be about once a month, now it’s a daily occurance - sometimes multiple times a day. Very annoying.

you don’t need the whole server directory - just the zip file. I narrowed mine down to just the files that were last modified before the last crash. I’d have uploaded more but the forum restricts zips.

Same happens here. PMS on Ubuntu Server 20.04. Just got to a point I’m not using it often. Most of the times will crash and reboot the whole machine. Tried everything I could find online, like adding fs.inotify.max_user_watches=65536 to /etc/sysctl.conf, turning hw decoding on/off or deleting the content in the /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Applioation Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/.
Nothing seems to work. :-/

And when I look at the PMS logs I get not much info and the last written data is bad:

Having the same issue.

Windows 10 Pro
Build 20H2

This install is less than a month old. But just like everyone else, I’m getting crashes at random. I have Tautulli and so of course I get the alerts that the server has gone down. Just yesterday I had to restart it a few times.

My install on my old box is still there and I haven’t updated it since the end of November and it doesn’t do this. So it’s something in the recent builds. I’ve attached my log file so that if someone wants to peruse it to see if there’s something weird going on.

This box has no malware, no antivirus other than the windows defender, no extraneous applications. Just literally, windows with Plex, Python, Tautulli, Filebot, Winrar, and Chrome installed.
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-01-14_15-03-19.zip (8.4 MB)

Did anyone ever find a solution?

Has anyone tried yesterdays update - 1.21.4.4079 ?
I’m just updating now to see what happens…

Just tried with 1.21.4.4079 - same thing. Just got to a point that I’m not using Plex anymore, although I have the unlimited Plex Pass. It just annoys me too much when I get this and have to switch to Kodi.

Try uninstalling the android / fire tv client app and then reinstalling. Solved my crashes that were linked to my fire tv sticks.

Will try on the nVidia shield, although I can always reproduce the issue with some content on chrome on windows.

I’m giving up. Update after update hoping it wilñl get fixed. but nothing seems to fix this…

I’ve found a workaround I think. Disabling transcoding server side has resulted in no more crashes. Your mileage may vary

That’s very interesting, as I have been getting a lot of Deadlocks/crashing recently never used to be a problem, but I have noticed it happens far far more when there’s a transcode going on.

I am actually starting to thing that maybe there’s a connection and that there’s a problem/bug with the transcoder that’s recently popped up
