Plex Media Server running with External HDD's

I am having so many issues with my external drive turning of on my while my Plex Server is connected to them, I have 2 5TB external Disk Drives and if they are not continuously being used they will turn off (I guess not sure) I will have to unplug them to get them to show up on the computer again to be able to start watching Plex again.

Is there anything that I can do to prevent this from keep happening all the time?

It is so frustrating, any help would be great.

Thanks in advanced!

Try this

This may not work, since the aggressive sleeping behaviour is often forced by the drive’s firmware and cannot be overridden by the OS.
My advise would be to stay clear of “mobile” drives, particularly those which are sold with promises of “power savings”.
Use a NAS,
or at least a DAS device (e.g. https://www.qnap.com/en/product/tr-004 ).

I just finished following the instructions on the web page you provided, it was pretty much the same except the “Allow the computer to turn of the device to save power”.

The check marks were still in there, so I am really hoping that will help.

Thank you for your help. I will update this post when and if it works.

Thank you f I have visited some of the website regarding the QNAP it looks very good but also very expensive.

But differentially something to purchase in the future, thank you for your time.

I currently use a larger version of this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8969670

There are some variations you can look at. I put in better fans (just more reliable) and haven’t had any issues with it. I run 15 drives in mine.
