Plex Media Server transcodes EVERYTHING to the local PMP

Server Version#:1.17.0.1709-982421575 (Also on the previous version)
Player Version#:2.42.0.1013-712b8c6f (Also on 2.41.0.1010-286e05db & Maybe earlier)

MacOS 10.14, Server & Player on the same machine, connected to a Receiver for 5.1 sound VIA HDMI . (refer to as MacHT)
since one of the previous versions - the PMS started to transcode everything I try to watch on the local PMP to 720p or sometimes even to much much lower resolution. (Ex: MKV, x265, 4512Kbps, E-AC-3 640Kbps).

Note that trying to play the same file from another machine MacBookAir/Win Laptop/Xbox/LG TV - it all runs without transcoding. (Same PMP Version on the MacBookAir/Win Laptop)

When I tried to run on the MacHT PMP a file from another PMS server at home (MacPro MacOS10.11, same PMS version) - it plays just fine without transcoding. (Even an MP4 HEVC 4K 22.4Mbps file)

I came to the conclusion that the problem is the PMS & PMP on the same machine.

Any Ideas on how to bypass it till the Plex guys decide to fix it?

Thanks

Please provide the entire log. That shows what PMS is doing, but not why.

Plex Media Server.1NV.log.zip (254.8 KB)
The Log is attached.

Thanks

Also found that it happens only on files with EAC3 sound track.

Your logs indicate that you have the client set to limit quality to 4 Mbps.

This is not the case, again - the same client plays up to 22.4Mbps HEVC/x264 - 4K files from another PMS on the same network without any transcoding.
From that client config:

I tested some more after reading your answer.
the problem is here:

From the PMS config - somehow it identifies the local player as remote stream & force to transcode everything above 4Mbps as it should.
changing those 2 values to “Original (No Limit)” & 20 Mbps solved the issue - so it’s a bug.

Edit:
Also tested with the new “Plex.app” client - the same behaviour. so every player running on the PMS machine is affected from this.

I’ll need to see your PMP logs to look into why it thinks it’s remote.

Plex Media Player.log (123.5 KB)

That shows that PMP wasn’t able to connect to your PMS using the localhost address of 127.0.0.1. You probably have your security setting as preferred so a secured connection is preferred. Without being able to make a connection to the local host, the next choice is a secured remote connection, which is what is going on. You need to look into your network on why the localhost is being blocked.

The security settings was to preferred secure connection.
Disabled secure connection totally - same thing.

Also tested - running from the web player that is connected to 127.0.0.1 - same thing.

You can’t block connections from/to 127.0.0.1.
This is not network related (not on OS level) (Also checked with Wireshark just for fun)
