Plex Media Server uses NAS DDNS IP as public IP

Hi there. I use Plex Media Server on my Synology NAS. Several weeks ago I also had remote access from anywhere. I use a custom public port an the port forwarding rule is set in my router. Yesterday I found out that the remote access does not work anymore. I searched for the cause and probably I found it. In the remote settings of Plex I can see that the public IP is the DDNS IP I use to reach my NAS from outside. I think the public IP Plex should use is the public IP my router shows. But I can’t find a way to change the IP in Plex.

Any idea how to solve this?

Player Version#: 1.108.1.307

Thanks.

Should I enter my real public IP there? And if it changes I always have to update?

Why does Plex not use the correct public IP? In my mind it does not make sense to use a DDNS IP anyway…

If you have a domain and a hostname you should use these, instead of an IP ofc.
But you may also need a fitting cryptographic certificate for secure connections.

ok. so I will have to test around.

But again. Why does Plex not use the real public IP?

They really should be the same. Are you sure your provider isn’t doing CGNAT or something like that?

I am no Synology expert. But it may be probably because you do have this DDNS thingy activated. So the Synology OS is promoting this as the default public gateway to all apps that are arunning on the NAS.

I don’t know how to find out if my provider uses CGNAT.

I will try to deactivate DDNS on synology. Perhaps this helps…
