Remote access in Plex server with wrong public IP Address

Hi guys,

For some reasons my PMS running on a ubuntu server showing the wrong public IP at the remote access section and failed to connect. I have double checked the port forwarding and it’s working fine.

The remote access has been working fine for weeks until today :face_exhaling:

Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395

I have the same issue at times too, although from what you have said I’m not sure it’s the same cause.

Any idea where it’s getting that IP from? For me, it will show the wrong IP because I run a VPN client and split tunneling so it will pick up the VPN IP when it’s not working correctly.

Like you, a port check shows the port for Plex is open and Plex can be accessed via its external IP. I think for me at least it’s a DNS issue with Plex domains or it not correctly updating on their side.

A couple of things to check if still an issue:

This shows you how to find your Plex token: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204059436-finding-an-authentication-token-x-plex-token/

Try a quick “network reboot.”

  1. Power off the Plex server.
  2. Power off your router and any switches or other networking gear.
  3. Wait one minute for everything to fully power down.
  4. Restore power to the router.
  5. Wait for the router to fully boot & come online, then power on any other networking gear.
  6. After the other gear is online, power on the Plex server.

Give the Plex server two or three minutes to fully boot, then check if remote access is working, if your public ip is correct, etc.

Hi Guys,

For some reasons, My Plex Server had synced up to the right IP Address. I think it possible that the problem was related to Plex AWS workers for pinging my local server to sync the IP.
