Plex Media Server Won't Start Up???

When I try to open Plex Media Server on my Macbook Pro, it gives me the signal below that it’s open for less than a second, and then it disappears. Doesn’t even give me an error report. It won’t open the tab in Chrome, nor will it activate sharing abilities.

Because it won’t open, its extension won’t appear in the bar above. I’ve had Plex for about a year now and I’ve never had this issue. I attempted to delete and re-download the application, but that did nothing. Any suggestions???

I just started having the exact same issue the other day. I’m afraid to do a full wipe because I don’t want to lose the insane amount of work I’ve put into editing posters and movie data. I set up a temporary Plex server on an old macbook but I’m anxious to get my normal server back up and running. Anyone have any suggestions?

Is it creating any logs? ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server/Plex Media Server.log

No, it doesn’t even have a folder in the library. I have no idea why.

there is more than one library folder. might be looking at the wrong one. the user/home (~) library is hidden by default on OS X/macOS . https://www.cnet.com/news/os-x-lion-where-did-my-library-go/

I can’t speak for HShayne5411, but I just checked and mine is creating logs whenever I try to open Plex Media Server. The following log was just created.

FWIW, my server is a 2012 Mac Mini. Thoughts?

that’s a corrupt database https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201100678-Repair-a-Corrupt-Database

Well that saved my butt. A million thanks!

Mine was a corrupt database too. Thank you so much!

I am having the same problems. I am currently using MAC OS 10.12.2; PlexMediaServer-1.3.3.3148-b38628e-OSX
When I try to open the application from the application folder, it will not open. It pops up and then crashes.

My troubleshooting efforts to date include:

Deleted application, deleted ~Application Support\Plex Media Server
Downloaded newest application version PlexMediaServer-1.3.3.3148-b38628e-OSX
Reinstalled app, moved to application folder
Attempted to open app via apps folder w/o success
Attempted to open app via browser http://app.plex.tv/web/app

Opening the app via browser, it continues prompting “Looking for servers …”

There are crash reports being created under ~Application Support\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports but files nor folders are not found/created under ~Application Support\Logs

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the web app (http://app.plex.tv/web/app) is not the server. they are two separate things.

if you can’t start the server from the applications folder need to see the crash logs. it won’t create regular logs if it never starts

have you tried right clicking and choosing open ( this will let it open if you have mac security settings set to not allow non app store apps to run )

attempted to right click (ctrl + click) w/o luck. app still flashes and closes.
attached are the crash logs

options in tool bar are not working (bold, italic, bullets, url, attachment)

I found a solution for this!
I had another application that experienced problems (Sketch)… It seems to be a OSX problem, that can be fixed by following the instructions here. I did it without backing up (since I live life dangerously) and everything works fine now:
