Plex Membership Forum Posting

Are people with a free plex account allowed to post to forums?

And if they can, what would be the cause of someone not being able to post?

Any Plex user can post in the forums - they just can’t post to the Plex Pass only boards. If you know someone with a standard Plex account and he/she is registered on the forum, post the error message - that might help troubleshoot things.

They aren’t getting any error messages. They just don’t have the option to “Ask a Question”. The button isn’t there. I have sent them the URL for asking a question and they get a permissions error message.

Which subforum did you point them at? In some forums you are not allowed to post directly, but you must rather go into a subforum. For instance this is the case in the NAS subforums or the ‘Skins’ section.

This forum. I also checked about 6 of the forums that they could see and each time it was the same. No error message, just no “Ask a question” button any where on any page. The button is missing, gone, not there.

Look at this page, or any page for that matter. Top right, under your name the “Ask a question” button. On their account it’s missing. Every place you see the ask a question button they don’t have it.

Due to the switchover to the new website last night, there were a few ‘bumps’. First, let them clear their web browser caches. Then close their browsers to destroy any session data probably still cached.

Then steer them to https://www.plex.tv/ and make sure they are signed in there with their plex account.

Then let them go to the forums again.
Take a look to the top right. If it says there ‘Howdy, Stranger!’ let them click on the ‘Sign In’ button below this.

I’ve already done all that late yesterday evening but i’ll give it another try when I get in touch with them.

Attached is a screen capture of what they are not seeing. Same computer, my account is perfect and theirs is missing the Ask a Question button. All done on the same system.

They get the following error message.

I guess the account was never validated with a confirmation email or something went wrong during this.

The account should work now.

Signed out and back in still the same. I’ll give it a little bit and let you know if the issue has been fixed but as of right now same problem. Thank you for your help.

Ok, problem is fixed. I made them go through their email and find the verification email. They clicked the link and validated their account.
