I have my music organized as album artist/album/disc 1, disc 2, etc. I run all my music through a tag editor before I import my new music into my music folder. I include track number, disc # of total discs, album name, album artist, artist, genre, and year. It worked on the first big import, but now, when I import music, I have to go through the tracks in Plex to break out the individual albums instead of them all being put under disc 1 or disc 5. How can I prevent this from occurring? I use the local data metadata preset.
There is no “disc # of” that I’m aware of. It should just be the disc number. Can you show me the tags as you see them in your tag editor?
Any reason you use different album names? Can you try removing the [Disc x] from the album title and see if that makes any difference?
That sounds like it might make it worse. Sounds like the OP wants multi-disc albums to show up as different separate albums, rather than be combined into one massive album.

The reason the albums are combining is because they’re most likely the same release, discs are split up when you open the album view like so:
If you want them as separate albums you would probably have to:
a) make sure they have different album titles like you do,
b) remove the disc indexes from the tags.
That might work. Plex is designed to show multidisc albums as one item.
I have loaded and deleted my library several times to attempt to avoid the combining of albums for muti-disc sets. Once I cleaned up some old/missing metadata, I loaded the whole library and it took, with rare exceptions, all my albums as tagged in my example. But to your point, it seems that Plex wants to combine everything under one album, but that is not what I want. If I do not provide a unique album name, I will not know which album is which without having to open up each album individually and inspect. I have noticed that on several muti-disc albums that it will haphazardly combine selected albums under one and a bunch under another. I tag everything, then put that content in iTunes first, and every hour Plex draws from my media folder. Not sure if iTunes has any contribution to this issue or not.
I have several boxed sets I wanted to break the albums out in a similar fashion to how you seem to want it done. I finally succeeded in doing so by the method essentially described by drzoidberg33: I named each disc specifically different and removed the disc number tag sequential numbering to set each one to disc 1.
I will try this and see if that solves my issues. Thanks.
