Plex Movie Scanner Ignores Advanced Settings

Server Version#:1.20.3.3437
Player Version#:4.45.0

I use Ember Media Manager to manage all my movie artwork and metadata I and have all my extras appropriately named as “-featurette” etc in the same folder as the movie. I recently switched from the legacy Plex Movie Agent mostly because Plex wasn’t showing most of the actor thumbnail pictures even though they are all saved locally in a .actors subfolder in the movie folder. Now using the new Plex Movie scanner and agent, I am getting the local actor thumbnail pics displayed however Plex is now downloading trailers and extras even though the Advanced settings under Manage Library > Edit has Find Extras and all other options unchecked except for Use local assets and Prefer local metadata. Basically I only want displayed what I have managed myself and saved locally. So how do I get Plex to stop adding a bunch of low-res trailers and extras on top that I have no interest in? Thanks.

Known issue. Fix scheduled for 1.20.4 release. You can disable all extras but trailers by enabling “Only show trailers.”

Rank and disable agents correctly, allowing only local assets

Thanks but the new Plex Movie isn’t listed as an Agent in my server settings to be able to select local assets only. Maybe that will be fixed in 1.20.4 too? For now I’ve gone back to the Plex Movie (Legacy), not only because of the extra trailers I don’t want but I also found the new Plex Movie is downloading genres and ignoring my .nfo’s on that too which to me makes the whole library unsortable. Anyway, fingers crossed that all that will be fixed in later releases, since I assume the legacy scanner is being deprecated and no one is going to go back and make local actor thumbs work with that or any of the other agents that would work for me.

Thanks for the response.

New Plex agent isn’t listed in settings. Once you upgrade there’s no going back and no options to speak of. Not that I mind that.

Edit the library, choose Advanced, choose the legacy agent.

Edit the library, choose Advanced.

Okay, upgraded to 1.20.4.3517 and using the new Plex Movie agent and scanner it’s now respecting my selections on “Use local assets” (checked) and “Find extras” (unchecked), so I’m only seeing my own extras and trailers once I refresh the metadata. Only problem now is that it’s NOT respecting my selection for “Prefer local metadata” (checked) because the plot and actor thumbs are being scraped from TMDB instead of from the Ember created .nfo and .actors subfolder saved under the main movie folder. Is that a known issue to be fixed in a future update as well? Thanks.

Plex does not read any information from .nfo files (except for the IMDb ID, to help with matching).

It does using the legacy Plex Movie agent along with XBMCnfoMoviesImporter plugin set as the highest priority source in the Agents settings. Problem is I can’t get any actors thumbs using anything but the new Plex Movie agent. If the new agent & scanner are not going to read local .nfos is there at least a way to have the plot summary scraped from IMDB instead of TMDB? I assume the legacy scanner is going to be deprecated at some point and if I’m going to lose countless hours of work curating my own .nfos it would at least be nice if I could select the more concise plot summaries from IMDB over TMDB like I can also do with the legacy scanner.

Or if the legacy Plex Movie is not going to be deprecated then is there any trick to continue to use that agent and somehow get actors thumbs to work (either local or from TMDB)? Thanks again.

Unfortunately not.

Ultimately, only the author of the .nfo importer plugin could answer that.
