I put a lot of work into customizing my MP4 meta-data tags for my movie files (Long Description, Genre, Studio/Copyright, Director, Screenwriter).
The new agents ignore my tags and pull the descriptions from TheMovieDB.org
To get my descriptions back, I edited my Library, advanced settings, and selected Scanner=‘Plex Movie Scanner’ , Agent=‘Plex Movie (Legacy)’, then ‘Refresh all Metadata’.
Plex needs to support customized metadata, in simple text files, that will be used in preference to the online descriptions. Rebuilding a library should automatically load the customized descriptions, along with the artwork files for poster and background.
Thank you for responding! The “Prefer Local Metadata” was, indeed, unchecked, and that seems to be the primary issue. I thought I had tried to upgrade this one smaller library (103 titles, just to dip my toe in the water), and I suspect that option got turned off (or maybe it was never on and I just didn’t notice?)
Also, in the process, I upgraded my Plex Service to the latest version 1.25.2.5319
Slightly different issue, but I created a new, library, for testing this issue, with just one movie. I decided to upgrade the library and indicated to upgrade the test library (but not others) and do a refresh of all one of the title’s metadata.
The arrow icon has now had the spinning circle going for hours and my Synology server CPU is keeping fairly busy, bouncing around 50%
There was only one title in the library, so I have the feeling it’s refreshing the metadata for all my libraries, even though I indicated to only upgrade the test library.
Also, it seems that if I upgrade the test library, I can switch back to the ‘Legacy’ scanner and then it will prompt me, again, with the option to upgrade the library.
Anyway, I guess this is a different issue. Thank you again!
Upgrading a library with one title should take about 10 seconds.
I do not know why the activity icon is still spinning. If you click on it, you should see if anything else is happening.
For example, the server could be generating video thumbnails or some other such task that takes awhile to complete. Such activity could be separate from a library upgrade. It could be part of maintenance tasks that run when scheduled (Settings → Scheduled Tasks).
That activity icon can be buggy when reporting what is happening and is untrustworthy. I typically check Settings → Status → Alerts to see what is actually happening for stuff that is reported via that icon. If nothing is happening in the alerts then its finished and the icon itself on the banner just has not updated yet.
Checking with a empty browser cache typically fixes the icon if its stuck spinning when nothing is happening.
The Settings → Status → Alerts is a good tip, but unfortunately I didn’t see it in time to see what was going on 4 days ago. In the last hour, I see a string of “Loading metadata for …” episode ID. Since I never look here, I’m not sure what to expect.
