I have been changing the names of the files in my server because Im trying to get rid of silly things like full stops in file names “the.black.fish” , or names like “the black fish” sorting as “black fish”.
I lock the file and save the changes and it correctly goes where it should. Suddenly a few days later for no reason it is suddenly sorting as “black fish” or “the.black.fish”
I have this issue with both TV and Movies. It seems to happen more often after an update, but an update does not have to have happened to make it happen. It will sometimes be fine for as little as a day, other times a couple of weeks.
It also does not do it to just the most recent files, I did about 100 edits yesterday, and it changed about 15 of them, but it has changed another 30 names that i edited months ago.
Do you mean field? Orange means locked. This should change automatically when you start editing a field, just wanted to make sure you are not clicking on it again making it black/grey which means unlocked.
If you actually catch it the day it happens it will be useful to see the server logs so we can see what is causing it to try to match again.
This usually happens for two possible reasons.
it was not actually matched and it is just showing the file name without extension. When clicking on the context menu there would be a Match option instead of a Fix Match option
“prefer local metadata” is enabled for library so it is grabbing the title embedded in an MP4 which may be different than files name
If you want article like "A, The, " to be consider in the sort by default, that is in the advanced setting file for the server where you can edit the ArticleStrings value removing the articles you want to keep in the sort. (Removing “The” will then sort “The Black Fish” in the "T"s) Info on that here. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/
