I have a number of documentaries in a folder (thanks to iTunes) that are not related to each other, but definitely not movies.
They do not show up in Plex at all, when they do not have a season, but do, when a season is added.
I have just recorded two documentaries about obituaries and one about the genocide in Indonesia.
Setting the season as the year of making, they end up in Plex as “Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares” I am not sure he is happy about this. I am for sure not, and there does (again) not seem to be a way to change the metadata at all.
Without a proper metadata tool, Plex is really not working for me, for TV-recordings that are not part of a TV-series and are not a movie.
Is there some kind of solution, or shall I just keep using iTunes for everything but movies?
Thanks for the answer, but it does not really help, as it is simply not flexible enough. I need to be able to change metadata for my series, also the ones I create (all documentaries about fishing, or whatever) into one “series” that I define.
The “other” categories is simply not useable for this kind either. It could even be the same moderator doing a show a year that would be good to keep together. If TV-series only allow series that are defined by entries into TVDB or similar and there is no way to change metadata (not even, this is not the correct series-thing), it does not meet my needs, like iTunes has done for ages.
In iTunes, I just define a series and if it does not download metadata using that name, I can apply it myself. The Own Videos category in iTunes is not useable either. I was hoping that Plex would offer the flexibility of TV-Shows of iTunes too, but I guess, I just have to use iTunes for TV-show-series that I define myself - It still is a bit crazily funny that a few documentaries about genocide end up with the Kitchen Nightmare-name and especially cover, though.
If they are one off Documentaries they should be located at TMDB - and be in a Movie Library - go look it up and name accordingly. If not at TMDB, Fix Match, Search Options, Personal Media and Hand Edit. Or put in Other Videos Library and Hand Edit.
TV Shows are found at TVDB - go there and look them up - name and structure accordingly - or they will be invisible:
A TV Show Library/
.....A TV Show/
.......Season 01/
.........A TV Show - S01E01.xxx
.........and so on....
Or
Fix Match, Search Options, Personal Media Shows (I think) - and Hand Edit.
Shows and Movies can NOT go in the same Library Type. Period.
Movies can go in a TV Show Library - if you use the Personal Media Agent, Hand Edit and structure them like TV Shows. Otherwise they will be invisible.
